“Declan’s house isn’t this way.”

I exhale through my nose, giving her my best smile.

“I know, baby.”

Sierra’s eyes flash dangerously.

“Crane—”

“I’m going to tell you something, baby, and I need you to listen.”

Sierra gapes at me, slumping back into her seat with defeat.

It’s not often I ask for her to listen.

“I’ve spent enough time in jail.”

Sierra stares at me, swallowing hard.

“Trivial shit, don’t panic—I haven’t killed anyone. Yet.” I grin, speeding up to match the traffic flow.

I grip the wheel, remembering how I thought my mom had killed my dad.

Sierra leans forward, placing her hand over mine as she strokes my face with her other.

“I didn’t know.”

Her voice is low and soft, and I know she’s embarrassed for suggesting we go to Declan’s.

“You didn’t,” I reply, glancing at her. “But that’s why I’m not going.”

“But,Crane, he has the diamonds!”

I turn to stare at her for as long as the traffic allows and shake my head.

“But he doesn’t haveyou. That’s all that matters to me.”

She bites her lip, and her eyes narrow as she stares out of the windscreen. I can feel her anger, but I’ll get rid of it.

All I’ve got to do is get her home.

“If I ever see him again?—”

“You’ll be wearing a diamond of your own.” I state, lifting her hand to mine. “It’s been a long day, Sierra. Let me take you to bed."

Sierra scowls as she crosses her arms, glaring out the window. I know her—I know what she’s thinking. But I’ll be damned if I’m risking her or me facing any charges because of that prick.

He’ll get what's coming to him, one day.

The drive home is relatively painless, and when I pull up at Sierra’s she finally gives me a small smile.

“There she is,” I whisper, leaning over to capture her lips with mine. “Please don’t be mad, baby, I just want a better life for us.”

“I know.” Sierra wraps her arms around me, pulling me into her as we kiss deeply.

I’ve always loved kissing Sierra, but it still feels like the first timeevery time. She still gasps when my tongue slides along hers, she inhales me as I groan into her mouth.

“I should bend you over this car,” I suggest, dropping my mouth to her neck.
