“Good. Yeah. Thanks for checking in, Miller.”

“Dude.” Maverick laughs. “Are you happy or what?”

“I’m happy,” Brody says. “Which is why I’m hanging up with you and putting my attention in other places.”

“Totally fair. See you Monday?”

“Yup. Be good, Miller.”

“Did you ever think you’d be the subject of locker room gossip at almost forty years old?” I ask, plucking the phone from Brody’s grip and moving it out of the way. “It’s kind of funny when you think about it.”

“How in the world is it funny?”

“You went so many years flying under the radar, and now you’re front and center with the drama.” I smile. “But I still love you.”

“Fuck,” he growls, yanking my shirt over my head. “Say that again, Hannah.”

“I love you,” I repeat when he kisses my neck.

“I love you,” I say when he pins my arms over my head.

“I love you,” I whisper when he fucks me nice and slow, our own celebration for the night.

“I love you too,” he answers when I drift off to sleep after a shower, and I dream of my name written in his notebook a thousand times.

FORTY-SIX

HANNAH

Tierney

Any word from Grant?

Me

Nope.

Two weeks and counting.

Tierney

Shit.

Have you thought about reaching out to him?

Me

No. He’s the one that needs to fix this.

Tierney

Agreed.

Do you think you’ll forgive him?

Me

He’s my brother. I don’t have to always like him, but I will always love him.
