“No. This isn’t your fault.” She tried to swallow and winced with the pain.
“Don’t talk. We’ve got plenty of time for that later. Right now, I need to get you to the hospital.”
She shook her head. “You need the hospital. You’re shot.”
“What, this little thing?” I smiled and glanced down at my shoulder. “Bear can dig this out of me and stitch me up with his eyes closed. It’s you I’m worried about.”
“No hospital. Just take me home.”
Home… for half a heartbeat, I hoped she meant she wanted to go home with me. Then her brother walked toward us, his hands up in surrender.
“Is she okay?” His brows knit together in worry. I teetered on the edge of telling him she was gone, just to fuck with the asshole.
Ginger tried to lift her head and reached out for him. “Bryson.”
He moved toward her, but I put my body between them, ready to protect her at all costs.
“I’m sorry. So fucking sorry.” His shoulders hunched and sobs wracked through him. “I didn’t mean for this to happen.”
“You sold your sister to a psychopath, you motherfucker.” My fingers curled into fists. I wanted to end him.
“You’ve got to believe me, Ginger. I never wanted any of this to happen. Give me another chance to make this up to you. We can go home and start over. I’m done with the Bones. I swear this time.”
My girl shifted her gaze to me. Love burned bright in her eyes. “My home is with Six now, assuming he’ll have me.”
Fuck yeah, I’d have her. I’d wanted her from the second I saw the flash of red hair against the snow. Grabbing her brother by the front of his shirt, I forced him into the front seat.
“If it were up to me, I’d take immense pleasure in ripping you apart piece by piece.” Terror washed over his face. The kid might have actually peed himself. “But I love your sister, so I’m going to let the sheriff deal with you.”
“Sheriff’s on his way.” Ace ran up to the truck. “We caught one of them in the ditch and Bear and Hades took off into the woods after the other guy.”
“Keep an eye on this one?” I nodded toward Grim.
“You got it.” Ace dragged Grim from the truck. “You’re coming with me, fuckface.”
With the situation mostly under control, I climbed into the backseat with Ginger and rested her head in my lap. “You really want to come home with me?”
She nodded. “More than anything.”
My heart soared high on the wings of a love I never thought possible. “I love you, Little Deer.”
“I love you, too. Now take me home.”
CHAPTER11
GINGER
It had beentwo weeks since Six had saved me, and I was more than a little impatient for him to touch me. He’d held me in his arms, kissed me long and deep, and was constantly brushing his fingers over my skin. But he hadn’t touched me the way I wanted to be touched… the way I needed.
Ever since our first kiss, my body had burned for him. I knew he wanted me. I’d felt the ridge of his erection pressed against my ass every night as he wrapped his big body around mine and spooned me while we fell asleep. He told me I needed to continue to heal, that I wasn’t strong enough yet. Well, I was tired of waiting. Tonight, I’d make sure he couldn’t resist me. Tonight, I’d finally become his.
I tied the bow on the front of the negligee I’d ordered online. The bruises on my neck had almost faded away, and I’d done a decent job covering up my lingering black eye. I almost looked like myself, though inside I felt like a different woman than the one I’d been just a few weeks ago. The love of a good man could do that. It helped knowing my brother was behind bars and would pay for his bad choices. The only thing that would make me feel better would be knowing Snake Eyes had been brought to justice. Bear and Six had searched the woods for him with the help of Hades, but hadn’t found him yet.
I wasn’t going to let that get me down though. Being with Six had changed me for the better, and I hoped I’d had the same effect on him.
“Are you ready to go out for dinner?” He entered the bedroom of his cabin we’d been sharing since the day he pulled me out of that truck and saved me from a fate worse than death. “Hold up. There’s no way I’m letting you out of the house in that.”
His eyes darkened as he caught my reflection in the mirror… exactly the kind of response I’d been hoping for.
