Kaiya turned to look at him. She placed a finger on her lips to tell him to keep silent and pointed at their sleeping daughter. He beckoned on her to come to him. Reluctantly, she cast a look at her daughter and rose from the chair beside the bed which she had sat on for days.

Tyler took her hand when she reached the door and practically dragged her out of the room.

“I’ve told Mom to look after Lili. We’re going dancing,” he firmly told her in a tone that brooked no argument.

But Kaiya, being stubborn, placed her hands on her hips and glared at him. “How can you possibly think of going dancing when our little girl is lying in there?”

“She’s not sick. Neither is she dying. Three days ago, she was certified fit by the doctor, but for some reason, you didn’t seem to hear that bit and have been mollycoddling her ever since.”

Although his tone was light, and she knew he was teasing, she felt slighted. She folded her arms across her chest.

“What would she think if she woke up sometime in the night and discover that we’d gone dancing?”

“Probably shout Alleluia.” He chuckled. “For three nights, you have watched her sleep. How many times did she wake up?”

Kaiya stared at her shoe and drew circles with it on the carpet.

“Kaiya, Lili is fine. I love the fact that you’re so sweet and caring toward her, but you must realize that you can’t spend the rest of your life and hers beside her bed.”

Acknowledging that he was right, she reluctantly nodded. “I’ll text Jalissa to bring me some dancing clothes.”

“Atta girl!” Tyler said excitedly and dragged her into his arms to give her a kiss.

The kiss got heated because they hadn’t had the opportunity to be together since Kaiya had been fastened to their daughter’s side for days.

“You two should get a room.”

An amused voice got them jolting apart and looking guilty like two teenagers caught smooching.

Tyler’s mom gave them a knowing look with a smile puckering her lips. Tyler muttered something incoherent and left the two women.

Kaiya cleared her throat, grateful that she finally had a chance to talk to the woman who mostly kept to herself or was out visiting friends.

“I’ve never had the opportunity of thanking you for being there for Lili all these years. Thank you,” Kaiya said with heartfelt gratitude.

Smiling, the woman covered the distance between them and took her hand. “And I thank you for coming into her life. Grandma can only do so much. After Lena’s death, I knew she needed her mother. I’m so sorry for what you went through. I hope being with her makes up for it.”

Smiling through her tears, Kaiya nodded. “It sure does.”

The two women hugged and went to check on Lili together. Jalissa delivered the clothing and warned her not to have too much fun considering how fertile she was. They both laughed at that.

Kaiya felt very sexy in the black short flared leather dress her best friend brought for her. She teamed it with knee-length leather boots and let her hair down just the way Tyler liked it.

Tyler whistled when he saw her. He, too, looked drop-dead gorgeous in a polo shirt, jeans, and sneakers.

“The night might end in a brawl if a man so much as whistles at you let alone touches you on the dance floor.”

Kaiya giggled. She felt so alive; she wanted to yell it for all and sundry to hear. Tyler asked her to do just that on their way to the club. He opened the car’s roof. Kaiya stood up, threw her arms in the air with the wind blowing her hair about, and screamed, “I’m alive!”

Tyler laughed heartily inside the car.

She and Tyler hit the club, and she felt like she was back again to her teenage years when she’d just met Tyler. They had a nice time dancing the whole night away.

Kaiya was surprised that instead of heading home, Tyler pulled up in the parking lot of an exclusive hotel. When she wanted to protest about Lili, he reminded her that his mom was with their little girl and had spent many a night with her when she was sick.

Giggling, Kaiya felt like a teenage girl sneaking off to go and make love with her boyfriend. They were so hot for each other that they couldn’t keep their hands off each other in the elevator. They didn’t make it to the bed when they got to the hotel room. Later, Tyler made slow and passionate love to Kaiya, which left her so contented; she never wanted them to leave the place.

“This might be very inappropriate, but I really need to know about your relationship with Lena. I know now that you never cheated on me with her, but I just want to know what happened with her,” Kaiya said into the comfortable silence that fell between them.
