“No worries. We can grab a few things in the morning.”

“I’m not in love with the idea of parading down here in broad daylight with my stuff. How about now?”

“Now’s fine.” He stooped to pick up his briefs.

“I can do it. You don’t ha?—”

“I’m a gentleman. I’ll help you carry. And protect you from grizzlies.”

She gathered her clothes and started dressing. “You told me the fence keeps out predators.”

“Damn, I did say that, didn’t I? Well, since I promised to be straight with you, here’s the truth. I want to go with you and make out on your inviting little bed.”

“You just think you do. Compared to your ginormous king, it’s cramped.”

“That’s what would make it fun. Like camping.”

“You’ve camped in a trailer before?”

“No, always wanted to but never got around to trying it.” He pulled on his jeans and shoved something in his pocket.

She paused to stare at him. “Did you just put a condom in your pocket?”

“Ah, you saw that.”

“Are you serious?”

“This is the exact opposite of serious. This is unnecessarily complicated and crazy, which is why I want to do it.” He picked up his shirt and shoved his arms into the sleeves. “You said we’d make love again tonight.”

“You’re insane.” But the idea was growing on her, setting off a reaction in significant parts of her body.

He must enjoy the idea of making love in different venues. He’d had to give up on his barn plan so maybe this was scratching the same itch.

“Come on, be insane with me.”

“Okay, sure. If that would make you happy.” She put on her boots.

“It will.” He circled the room blowing out votives. “And it’ll make you happy, too. I guarantee it.”

“’It won’t be as private. I left all the windows open a couple inches to keep it cool. Closing them would make it stifling in there.”

“I’m capable of being a quiet lover when required.”

Anticipation tightened her core. The more he talked about this the more she was into it. She’d always known he was passionate. She hadn’t known he also had a spirit of adventure.

As they walked back though the house, she took note of a beehive fireplace, a leather sectional facing it and a rough-hewn coffee table that held nothing but his laptop. A masculine and functional room.

Multi-functional, too? Now that she understood him better, she had no trouble imagining hot lovemaking on that sectional.

He ushered her out the door into a night made for lovers. She breathed in cool night air scented with pine. The half-moon sat lower in the sky adding sparkle to the stars overhead.

“It’s beautiful here.” She let out a sigh of pleasure.

He glanced at her as he took her hand. “Si, chica bonita.”

A blush warmed her cheeks. “You still get to me with compliments like that.”

“And you still get to me just by existing. Five years hasn’t changed my reaction.”
