Her heart stuttered, then settled into the gentle one-two-three, one-two-three beat of the song. “Did you request this?”
“Yes, ma’am.”
“Why?”
“Figured you wouldn’t be expecting it.”
“That’s for sure.”
“And there’s less body contact. Safer that way.”
“Doesn’t feel safe.” The intensity in his deep brown eyes held her captive as the graceful symmetry of the dance echoed the rhythm of making slow, sweet, love. Memorable love, like their last time on that golden morning. “It’s sneaky seductive.”
“I know.” He smiled. “I wanted to improve my odds.”
“Ever hear of overkill?”
His smile widened. “Really?”
“Uh-huh.”
“Good.” He let out a sigh. “Thought you might have changed your?—”
“Nope.” Between the dance and her racing heart, she was low on air. “I can’t wait.”
His eyes darkened. “Wanna make a break for it?”
“Don’t tempt me.”
“Too late.” He dragged in a breath. “Damn, Jordan.”
“Damn, Luis.”
“You turned the tables on me, lady. I’m in the palm of your hand. Tell me what we should do.”
“I can’t ride back with you.”
“You could, but you’d have to sit on Monty’s lap.”
That startled a laugh out of her. “Which would kinda blow our cover.”
“If we still have any. I’d hoped to do this early in the evening. We’re a bit conspicuous.”
“Are they all watching us?”
He glanced toward the corner of the room. “Yep.”
“This is silly. I should tell your mom I’ll be staying with you.”
His eyes widened. “You’d do that?”
“Now that I know her better, I’m guessing she’d appreciate honesty instead of sneaking around. It’s more respectful.”
His chest heaved. “Alrighty, then. Full disclosure?”
“Full disclosure.”
“Song’s almost over.”
