“No,” I replied. “I’m really happy you stopped by.”
My mom stood up abruptly and declared herself tired.
“Are you okay?” Simone starred at her.
“I am, just going to go lay down. That flight is so early in the morning.”
Frowning, I shrugged. “Okay, let us know if you need anything.”
She dropped a kiss on both our heads. “It was nice to meet you, Dani.”
“You too,” Dani smiled sweetly.
For the next few hours we sat up and talked and giggled as we moved from my dining area to the living room. We told Dani about growing up in Texas and how we’d both grown up loving sports.
While Dani told us about growing up in Raleigh, North Carolina and how her mother had passed away a few years ago from a house fire.
“That’s so awful,” I replied.
“Yeah, it’s been something I’ve just tried to put out of my mind. Moving to Sacramento has been one of the best things to happen to me in a long time.”
“So…you don’t have any other family?” Simone was sitting cross-legged on the couch beside me.
Dani shook her head, a glimmer of sadness in her eyes. “No and I never knew my dad.”
“Us either,” I replied.
“Yeah, Ellen and our step-father raised us. Now Billy….that was our dad, that man was a complete rolling stone. He was a traveling pharmaceutical rep. We’d get a check every once in a while but that was about it.”
“Not true,” I hit Simone with the yellow decorative pillow I was playfully tossing in the air.
“She’s right,” Simone nodded. “One time he took us for ice cream.”
“Exactly, get your facts straight! Billy just wasn’t father material.”
Soon I found myself yawning and Simone and Dani started too as well. My assistant decided she was going to head out and I walked her to the door.
“I’m glad you came over,” I replied. “It’s so nice that you’re close by.”
She smiled. “It was lovely meeting your family, Silver.”
I looked back over my shoulder and could see Simone straightening up the couch for me before she headed off to the room she was sharing with mom.
“I’m glad you got to meet them too.”
“Well c’ya at work tomorrow,” she gave a slight wave.
Leaning out of my door, I watched her walk down just a couple of doors. I had no idea that she was living so close to me but it was nice to know someone in my building I decided.
Once the lock was in place on my front door, I headed to my bedroom.
Flicking the light switch to the private bathroom on, I pulled out my skin products to wash my face. Turning the sink on, I gently popped a little water onto my skin. Three pumps of face wash later I had white bubbles shimmying across my face. Slowly, I made circles all over skin before finally rinsing them away.
Reaching over to the cotton balls, I grabbed one and added the toner that smelled of mint and lemons. Swiping it all over my face, chin and neck I held it back and looked at some of the brown smudges, wanting to gag.
“Gross,” I murmured and tossed it into the trash.
After dabbing on some moisturizer, I popped a satin bonnet onto my curls. I was the epitome of hotness I decided starring at my reflection.
