He nodded and practically dragged me out.

“I got you this time,” Enzo stated.

The night air hit me and a few more shots were heard going off. It was nothing to the sound of an explosion. I had no idea how many of my men were alive. Hell, I didn’t know if Cassidy had survived or any of the men, he’d brought with him.

All I knew was that Enzo had made it out alive.

Naomi,I thought.

We made it to the parked SUVs, our clothes smelling of gasoline and smoke. Sliding down, we watched as the orange glow lit up the sky and in the distance the wail of siren could be heard. Both Enzo and I saw something moving out the corner of our eyes and raised our guns.

“Hold your fire!”

It was Cassidy jogging towards us with a smile on his face. Behind him a few of our men had someone in tow and for just a few moments I thought they might have captured Alistair. But it wasn’t him.

Slippery bastard, I thought.

Instead, it was the scarred man. The one that had killed Alphonse and James a year ago. The man that had hours earlier just terrorized my wife and her friends.

“Look who I found,” Cassidy gave a smile, taking his foot and kicking the Scared Man.

He fell to his knee in front of us. He seemed smaller now but no matter. Getting to my own feet, I raised the gun.

“Anything you want to say?” I asked, locking eyes with him.

He spat at me.

Disrespect.

Without warning, I put a bullet between his eyes and never flinched. Looking around I saw that I was missing a few men but most had made it back.

“We need to go,” Enzo spoke.

“Does somebody have the time?” I asked.

One man spoke up, “It’s five minutes after 2 o’clock.”

Wincing, as I turned my ribs still feeling the sting from earlier, I gave Enzo a nod. “Happy, Official, Birthday, little brother.”

He shook his head and clapped me on the back. “What a fucking year.”

We gave the blaze one last look before jetting back to the villa. I had no idea how I was going to break it to Diamond that Naomi was dead. I had let her best friend burn to death. Would she forgive me?

This had been a shit vacation.

Chapter18

Diamond

Thierry’s hands had woken me from my slumber. It was just around sunrise when he’d whispered for me to wake. Instantly, I’d known that something was wrong. Maybe it was the way his brows had knitted themselves together in worry or just the fact that he smelled of smoke.

“What is it?”

I didn’t remember much after that. There had been wailing like nothing else and later on, when things had calmed down, I’d asked who had made the awful noise.

“You did,” Thierry had reminded me.

Naomi was dead.
