Trying to roll my eyes on made me sleepier. “Come to bed soon, okay.”
“Okay,” he replied.
There was a lamp buzzing nearby. I almost wanted him to turn it off, but he didn’t. My lids were closed by the time he shut the bedroom door behind him. I drifted off to sleep, my mother waited for me there and my brother too.
Chapter 17
Thierry
The sound of my neck cracking filled air as I came down the steps of the villa. Tension had corded itself into my being. My brother, and a few guards stood waiting along with our only ally in the war against Alistair it seemed; the other families were still pissed and fighting amongst themselves trying to get the ports back up and running. Cassidy Torrio stood looking grim faced as hell. We shook hands and then headed to the armory that was hidden underground. Very few people had known of its existence. Hell, even fewer guards had known.
My father’s father had decided to have it built years after acquiring the place. He’d believed until his dying breath that it was good to be prepared.
“Well shit, we’re ready for a war,” Cassidy said from behind me as the door to the hidden room open and light spilled out.
Guns of every kind were hanging on the wall.
“My grandfather had always believed in being prepared,” I told Cassidy.
Enzo and the guards were already pulling guns off the wall.
“I’m gonna kill this motherfucker once and for all,” Enzo stated as he checked the sights on a Glock 18, his eye squinting to line everything up.
I gave a nod, deciding to pick up my own Glock that was a matted black unlike the rest in the armory. My eyes scan over the walls, a few of the boys picked up AR-15s and Cassidy was among them.
“I gotta get one of these fucking rooms,” Cassidy remarked upon us leaving.
The time on the phone showed that it was just slightly after midnight when we departed. There were two blacked out SUVs waiting. I had no idea exactly what to expect when we arrived at the Conclave of Dons but I knew that Alistair wouldn’t give up without a fight.
“What about the girl he’s with?” Cassidy seemed to read my mind.
Me and Enzo looked at each other.
“She chose wrong,” I replied. “My wife and my son could have been killed…I suspect Naomi was feeding Alistair information and didn’t realize it.”
Enzo offered a shrug. “The men know the entry points, there’s six.”
“I’m going in through the fucking front door!”
Pulling the slide back on the gun, the moment the car stopped, fear went away. Only adrenaline was left to course through my veins. Cassidy and Enzo were there immediately flanking both my left and right.
The air felt cold with regret as we moved past the stone statues, torches glowing. The medieval castle loomed in front of us, the Italian moon behind it making it seem like an oil painting come to life. My calves hated me as I climbed what seemed to be a million steps, noting that I’d seen some of my guards slip around to the back and sides where the other entry points were. We were storming the castle and that was when gun fire ripped through the air.
“Up top, up top!” Cassidy bit out.
He let the AK begin to punch through the air as we moved behind some of the statues. We hadn’t even gotten to the door good yet. Lights began to flood the air. If Alistair hadn’t known that we were here before, he knew now.
The moment I saw my brief chance to go for the front doors, the chance was taken. I entered inside and the smell of gasoline hit my nostrils immediately. Alistair was standing at the top of the staircase.
“Thierry, we truly have to stop meeting like this,” he smiled and then one of his lackies came charging out of nowhere.
“Fuck it,” rage had begun to fill me, and I let the bullets fly.
Unfortunately, as Alistair’s crazy ass laughs began to fill my ears, his soldier had decided to do the same. One of his bullets hit its target and I flew back. The bullet proof vest might have stopped it from killing me, but my ribs were on fire.
With the momentum propelling me backwards I fired once more and watched as the bullet carved out a chunk of his throat. Blood sprayed all over his face and I managed to get to my feet, gun still pointed, just in time to watch his body land with a thud.
Chaos seemed to be all around me, and Alistair had quieted. I aimed at him, and I saw his gaze had narrowed as he looked down his nose at me, his hands behind his back. He seemed way to confident for someone who had a weapon trained on them and no way out.
