“I don’t know,” she said.
“Yes, you do.”
“No, the fuck she doesn’t!” I gave a frustrated growl.
The need to kill Nathan was bubbling to the surface again. I wanted him dead. His wife would never even miss him. Look at how he was planning a fucking getaway when he had an entire family at home waiting for him. This was one of those sins that God would overlook. The man was trying to fuck my wife for crying out loud.
“Let me think about it, okay?”
He sighed on the other end. “Di…you know he’s not coming back right. He’s gone but I’m still here.”
Diamond’s face changed and she hit the end button.
Nathan’s voice had been cut off. She flung the phone back onto the bed and went back to peeling off her bra and panties. Her skin looked like swollen chocolate as she waddled over to her vanity.
She was breath taking even from a computer screen and I yearned to roam my hands all over her body one more time. Her breast looked even fuller than usual and there was the unmistakable bump growing there. I watched as she rubbed her hands over her stomach and then disappeared into the bathroom. She emerged after what I assumed was a hot shower. She pulled on my old Yankees t-shirt and some panties before slipping into bed.
It was then I noticed she was crying. She began to sob into the pillow for all she was worth and I knew that it was because of me.
My heart seemed to squeeze in my chest. It was hard to ignore that I had genuine feelings for Diamond. I had never intended to cause her any sort of pain.
And then that fuck boy, I thought.
Nathan really had some shit coming to him. My mind ran through all the ways I could make him disappear starting with figuring out his schedule and just having him go fucking missing. I could shoot him, throw him in the back of an old beater and have Enzo help me bury him somewhere that they would never find him.
The noodles grew cold as I continued to watch Diamond. Eventually, she stopped sobbing and drifted off to sleep. Exiting out of the footage, I turned off the light and starred into the dark. A few shadows slid and bounced along the ceiling, and I even heard a few voices outside my door, my hand immediately went to my gun that was laying nearby.
I’d need to move locations now that Diamond knew exactly where I was.
Eventually, I’d go home but for now I needed to remain a shadow.
Taking a deep breath my mind travelled back to when I’d been trapped and nearly burned alive.
The smoke had been pouring into the room and it seemed that its soul purpose was to snuff my life out. I could still feel the heat licking over my skin.
The taste of ashes had been on my tongue. It as though someone had poured an ashtray full of soot and dust into my mouth. Coughing like I had never coughed before, I had continued to saw through the bindings finally freeing my hand. Once it was free, I had minimal time because the ceiling was ready to cave in at any moment. Finally, the knife had sliced through the other binding as sweat poured and rolled down my body.
I had been praying the entire time and hadn’t realized it.
Getting to my feet, I realized that everything was engulfed. Flames were red and angry, consuming everything within reach. The window that I had once considered an option was no longer in play. Looking above me, I saw the ceiling was beginning to crack even more.
When everything was lost and my thoughts turned dark, I starred death down. I figured at least I would die standing on my own two feet. By the doorway, I could already see that Talia’s body was there slumped against a wall, charred. Flesh was peeling away revealing the whiteness of her skull.
And then, the floor gave way and I plummeted into the darkness below.
Chapter 3
Diamond
My brain was running rampant. I was all over the place, my mind was racing. Had I really seen Thierry the night before? Had that really happened?
The entire drive over to the OBGYN office at Metro Mercy had me questioning my sanity. A chill ran down my spin at the thought. His brown eyes were haunting me. He looked tired and scraggly.
Bitch, you should have shot him!
He lied to you!
He made you think he was dead!
