Secretly, I was smiling inside. The sensation had made me feel so good to get under her skin. Diamond was a huge brat but if she wanted a war, something she’d been hollering about since day one, then I’d give her one, in the bedroom. There was no way in hell I was giving her a divorce and we both knew it.

Chapter 13

Diamond

“Morgan, seriously go and take Erin to dinner,” I was trying to get my bodyguard to go and enjoy. We all knew that she was hooking up with Enzo’s assistant and I could have cared less.

“Ma’am,” she stated. “I don’t think that’s a good idea.”

“We’re at home,” I told her. “The girls are coming over to pack for the trip tonight. I don’t need you scaring them.”

Morgan’s features twisted up, but I waved her away.

“Take that woman somewhere really expensive,” I told her.

Eventually she relented and I was happy as hell. Tibs was on my hip while I poured some champagne and my soon to be ex-husband was in a hotel. Enzo was visiting him, and Carmen was bringing baby Jesse over while we all sat around and pretended to repack our suitcase. There was athunkon the steps followed by a cry.

“I’m okay!” Trey hollered.

“What happened?” I hollered back.

“Almost tripped! Get your ass in here, Carmen just pulled up.”

Tibs gurgled and I sipped some of my bubbly. “Aunt Trey has a terrible mouth.”

“I heard that,” she said from the doorway.

I handed her the baby and grabbed the bottle of champagne so that I could meet Carmen at the door with a glass. Baby and mom came through the door smiling from ear to ear.

“We’re pumping and dumping tonight,” I greeted her with a glass.

“Yes bitch, yes,” she took a glass from me and immediately dropped some into her mouth.

We finally got settled into the living room, the television was going in the background. Some Channel 7 news anchor was talking about the recent overdoses. Cringing inwardly, I thought back to Sam. I’d met her months ago when I was going for a checkup at Naomi’s office while there for my own appointment. She had done as she’d promised and come in for a job.

Trying to get her life together…

“I am so excited about this trip, Di,” Carmen was staring at the glass of champagne. Jesse was scooting around nearby playing with blocks. “You just have no idea how much it means to us.”

I rolled my eyes. “Shut up.”

“No…seriously. Things haven’t been going well with Paul’s job. They’re talking about moving the company out of Georgia to maybe Massachusetts.”

Trey looked at both of us, shock on her face. I was sure my face had reacted the same way and Tibs began to whine. I shushed him and listed to Carmen talk a little more about their situation. Clearly, things were stressful at home with her too.

“That’s so far,” I told her.

“Has Paul considered other jobs?”

“He’s been with them since college,” Carmen said. “Trust me, I’ve told him I don’t want to leave Atlanta. This is home. Never wanted to go anywhere else. The fights have gotten pretty bad.”

“He hasn’t hit you, has he?”

“No!” Carmen replied quickly. “But it’s gotten really bad. I thought that after the baby was born, I’d get back to catering and then…”

“Life,” Trey sighed.

“I worry with the way things are he’ll have a tough time finding something if he doesn’t stay with the company,” Carmen began to cry unexpectedly.
