“Anna,” he called out as she reached her car. She reluctantly turned.
“What?”
He rubbed his short beard and sighed heavily. “Melody…”
“Nobody will hear about her from me,” she interrupted, annoyed. “I’ll just say that I found out why you rarely open your mouth.”
He blinked at her, irritated. “What, why?”
“Because everyone would find out that you’re just an asshole,” she said abruptly, turning her back on him and getting into her car. She couldn’t believe she had ever gone to bed with that idiot!
Chapter Five
Fifth encounter
“Why are you wearing a tie?”
He shook his head and looked at her. Every time he got together with her, she had some kind of question. How are you? How was your game? Have you eaten yet?
“Oh, right. You always wear suits on the plane. Are you coming straight from the airport?”
Lucas took off his tie, followed by his shirt, and threw both on the floor.
Anna bit her lip as her gaze hungrily slid over his bare chest…and he hardened. This woman’s gaze was dangerous. “Okay. No talking. Got it.” She grinned. “So do more useful things with your mouth. Or are you weak at everything that has to do with your lips?”
We have nothing in common.
Anna pushed open the door to the Ice Lounge with her fist and gritted her teeth.
We have nothing in common.
The words had been on her mind for days — and damn, they were annoying her!
She hadn’t been in love with Lucas. She hadn’t wanted anything from him except his body. But giving each other so much time and passion wasn’tnothing!
They hadn’t shared food, feelings, or free time, but they had shown each other respect and closeness, closeness that they both needed. He needed it as much as she did. At least that was what she had believed.
She wrapped her arms more tightly around her body and stood on her tiptoes to see over the heads of the bar patrons. Where was the Hawks’ table?
She understood that Lucas was angry with her, especially now that she knew what he had a child to protect. However, that didn’t give him the right to make her feel like she’d been of no value in his life because…he had been of great value to her.
Her phone vibrated, so she briefly gave up searching for the hockey players and glanced at the screen. She had a new email in her inbox. When she read the sender, her stomach knotted up.
It’s okay if you don’t want to reply. I expected that. But could you at least tell me if you received my last message?
She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Her life was supposed to be more relaxing, after she’d gotten through all that studying, but in the last week, everything seemed to have only gotten more complicated. She wasn’t ready to reply to the email, not even with:I received it.
“There you are!” a voice rang out and an arm wrapped around her shoulders. “You’re just in time. The firstCup of Shamehasn’t been awarded yet.”
She quickly put the phone back in her pocket before turning to Lucy with a smile. “The first what?”
“The firstCup of Shame! Dax didn’t tell you about it? I started a tradition last year to kick off the playoffs — to honor the biggest idiots of the season.”
Oh, her brothers would definitely be nominated in several categories. Anna grinned widely and allowed Lucy to pull her through the bar to the VIP area of the Ice Lounge.
“Sounds fun!”
“It is! Leon won five out of ten awards last year, and we’re all excited to see if he can outdo himself.”
