I stirred slightly, my eyelids slowly fluttering open. I looked around. The first light of dawn had begun to break, spilling through the large floor-to-ceiling windows in his bedroom. I couldn’t believe I’d fallen asleep in his arms. We went round for round until I couldn’t fucking see straight.

My body was exhausted; every limb felt like it weighed a ton. My body and mind were out of sync, and my muscles felt relaxed and sore simultaneously. I sluggishly twisted my neck in Sir’s direction as if every move I made required more effort than I had to offer. My thoughts were fragmented, and my mental clarity was intangible.

“What time is it?” I quizzed, still half-asleep but curious.

“It’s early. But trust me, it’ll be worth it.”

He gently pulled me up and wrapped me in a warm, cozy Sherpa blanket as if he knew my motor skills had been reducedto that of a newborn. He cradled me in his arms and carried me to the living room. It was bathed in a soft, golden light as the first rays of the sun began to peek over the horizon. He set me down on the large, comfortable sofa facing the windows and hovered over me, blanketing me with his warmth.

“Early riser?” I inquired before a soft yawn slipped past my lips.

“No. I don’t get tired. Plus, I thought you might want to watch the sunrise while I eat your pussy.”

My lips swooped to one side, appreciating the small romantic gesture, no matter that it was coated in lust. Sir’s mouth began working its familiar magic before I could let another word slip past my lips. He already knew he had my permission. I was in his possession, and there was nowhere else I wanted to be. I’d spent the last few hours climaxing under his command, but it was clear he meant every word he said about his promises before the sun came up. He wanted more of me, and I wanted more of him too.

His long tongue flicked against my clit with the quick precision of a venomous snake when it came time to catch its prey. I found myself daydreaming about him while still in his presence, rerunning the forbidden moments in my mind and savoring how he put me on a pedestal and made me feel seen. The fact that Sir was the only man who’d ever paid such attention to every piece of my anatomy stirred up feelings deep inside me that I wasn’t ready to face. Still, I couldn’t deny the pull Sir had on my heartstrings and my pussy.

But then, reality sunk in. The reasons why he was off-limits loomed over my desires like a dark shadow. Guilt and shame crept in, whispering reminders of the consequences of tossing caution to the wind. Inside of me was a game of tug-of-warbetween my mind and my heart. Sir and I had been partners in the complex dance of desire and restraint for too long. Yet, he’d proven he was theonlynigga who knew the story of my body.

My nails scraped against his tattooed muscles. “Ooh fuck!” I squealed while rolling my hips against his lustrous beard.

My back arched, lifting off the couch cushions. My lashes shot upward, catching the view of the morning sky as the colors began to change—pink, orange, and purple hues blended in a mind-blowing exhibit. My legs spread wider as my eyes snaked along the view of Sir slurping between my thighs, giving the view of the sunrise a run for its money.

His long tongue met my every squirm and twist, refusing to let me run from the pleasure that surged from the soles of my feet up to my scalp. Sir ate my pussy as if he’d been starving.

“Don’t run from me, Averie. I love the way you taste,” Sir growled. He was a real fucking master, schooling me in a lesson of indulgence as he violated all the meat on my bones.

My legs shook as I panted. “Fuck!Don’t stop. I’m close!”

“Is it mine?” he quizzed, eyes flashing up at me from between my thighs.

I felt my legs getting weak at the low rumble of his tone and the lashings of his tongue. “Yes! It’s yours!” I squealed, leaking everywhere.

Sir pulled away with a face full of my gushy juices and a trace of a satisfied smile brushing his lips. “Happy New Year, Averie.”

My chest rose and fell as my eyes swung toward the massive window. I watched as the sun continued to rise, casting a golden glisten over the fresh snow. My ears homed in on the distant sound of car horns. The city below us had slowly started to awaken, but it felt like we were the only two people who existed up in Sir’s penthouse. I had to admit, there was something special about starting the new year off like that.

“The sunrise is beautiful,” I admitted.

Sir kissed the top of my head. “Not as beautiful as you.”

We lay wrapped in the oversized blanket, enjoying the serene moment. Internally, my mind continued to war against my heart—a constant push and pull between my detective’s logic and raw human emotion.

One minute, I was determined to keep my distance andneverput my hand in the cookie jar again. The next, I was reeled back into him, unable to deny our shared connection and chemistry. It was as if our souls were bonded on this spiritual plane and the next. My heart stumbled out a frantic beat at the thought of him, a magnetic pull I’d never been quite able to resist. Every glance and touch sent shivers down my spine, igniting a fire almost impossible to douse.

Was all this worth the risk?

I lay in his arms, questioning myself. I looked up at him, curious if I could live with the what-ifs when it came time to walk away. My phone rang, slicing through the peaceful silence and my raging thoughts. My head jerked toward the kitchen, where my coat lay on the counter. Without saying a word, Sir retrieved it from my coat pocket. I watched him check the caller ID.

“It’s the police station,” he announced, handing the phone to me.

With a sigh, I answered the call. “Detective Morris.”

“Morris, a body washed up in the New York Harbor about half an hour ago. We believe it’s connected to the shooting at Karma. We need you here as soon as possible.”

My heart dropped half a foot. I didn’t want to leave the perfect moment with Sir, but duty called. “Understood. I’ll be there right away.” I ended the call, turning my gaze back to Sir apologetically. “I have to go.”

Sir nodded, understanding but visibly disappointed. “I understand.”
