Oliver shook his head, but the movement was loose, uncontrolled. He was in a bad way.

“An ambulance is enroute.”She didn’t have time to waste.“Did Andrew help kidnap you?”

A nod.

She moved over to Kristy.“Kristy, you’re under arrest.”

Kristy shook her head.“You can’t arrest me.I’ve got to pick my kids up from school.”

The woman was a piece of work.Oliver was critically injured and all she cared about were her children.“Dominique can do it.”Dot moved forward.

The woman frowned.“Why Dominique?”

“Steven’s in gaol.We arrested him this morning.”

Kristy went pale.“What for?”

“Drug smuggling.”

She lowered her shaking hands.“No.He didn’t do anything.”

“That’s not what the evidence says.”She tucked her gun away and handcuffed Kristy and then moved to Andrew to do the same. She read them both their rights while assessing Oliver’s pale skin and shaking hands. The bandages around the spear were a deep red, but there wasn’t anything else she could do for him here.He needed medical help.

“You hanging in there, Oliver?”she called.

“Yeah.”His voice was thready and his eyes fluttered closed.

Panic filled her. There wasn’t a lot of time.

In the distance another car engine got louder.Whoever it was could help Oliver while she restrained the others.Unless it was someone from Stonefish.

She needed to work fast and get Andrew and Kristy in the police car.

“This is bullshit,” Andrew said.“I only did what my father told me to do.”

Dot glanced at Andrew.“Lucas Fitton?”

Andrew nodded.“He told me to get Oliver away from everyone else.He didn’t tell me what was going to happen.Kristy was the one with the spear gun.She ordered us both into the boat.”

“Don’t pretend you’re innocent,” Kristy spat.“You were spying on the group.Trying to find out where the treasure was.”

“My father made me take the stupid university course. He said he’d cut all my funding if I didn’t do what he said.He blackmailed me.”

Finally, someone willing to talk to the police.“You’re saying you were coerced into participating?”Dot asked. The sound of a car engine came closer.

Sweat poured down Oliver’s face and his breathing was shallow.Dot stepped towards him.

“Yeah,” Andrew answered.“I didn’t want to.”

Dot brought her attention back to him.“What did he ask you to do?”

“Take Oliver’s course. My father knew the museum would send someone to investigate the new shipwreck and he could make sure it was Oliver. He needed me to be his eyes and ears on the dive.”Andrew scowled.“Further punishment for not being interested in the family business.”

“And what is the family business?”Dot asked.

“Smuggling.”

Dot glanced behind her as Rodney and Martin pulled up.Backup had arrived, but no ambulance. They could help Oliver while she listened to Andrew’s confession.
