Finally he was listening to her.

“Amani speaking.”

Dot moved away from Oliver.“It’s Dot.I have a huge favour to ask and the fewer people who know what you’re doing, the better.”

“Shit.What’s going on?”

She lowered her voice.“Can you trace a satellite signal?”

“Yeah.Where is it?”

“Same location as I’m calling from.”

“Give me a minute.”Keys clattered in the background and Dot checked the time. She needed her full kit to get as much evidence as she could. But maybe she could do it without Stonefish getting suspicious.

“Oliver, we need to go.”She gestured for him to follow and then strode across the shore back to the police boat.

“I’ve got you on some island in the gulf of Retribution Bay,” Amani said.

“That’s right. There should be another signal on the island.I need it traced and then, if possible, disrupted.”

“I’m on it.What are you working on?”

“An organised crime ring.”Excitement built in Dot.“Get the anchor,” she ordered Oliver.

“That’s pretty big for your small town.”

“I know, but I think I’ve finally got a break.”

“The organised crime division not helping you?”

“They sent Rodney.”

Amani groaned.“You poor thing. No wonder you need my help.”Some more tapping of keys.

“Tell me,” she said.“Is the Oliver who is with you Oliver Anderson?”

Dot groaned.“Yes.It’s a long story.”She should have remembered Amani knew him.She glanced at the engine.“Any idea how to stop a boat engine from starting?”

“Dirty the carburettor,” Amani answered.

Dot raised her eyebrows.“How do you know?”

“Ugh.I dated a guy who was into drag racing,” she said.“I spent hours listening to him talking about engines.”

Dot took another look at the engine cover. It would take too long to get the carburettor out.

“Got the signal,” Amani said.“It’s registered with a company who is always helpful.I’ll give my contact a call and get a name for you.”

Elation filled her.“Thanks.I owe you.Any chance you can disrupt the signal?”

“Not personally.I might be able to get the provider to do that, but I’d need justification.”

“Don’t worry about it.”She’d make do with what she had.“Thanks for your help.”

“I’ll call when I have the information.”

Dot turned the key on the boat and nothing happened. She frowned.Oh, the gear stick wasn’t in neutral. She placed her hand on the gear stick and then hesitated. This was the answer.Oliver was at the bow, anchor in hand, ready for her to start the engine. She made a fuss of trying multiple things and then called, “The engine won’t start.”
