Georgie smiled. “I like the way you think.”
“It could be dangerous,” Matt said.
Darcy nodded. “Who knows what they’ll do as retaliation?”
“Lee does,” Georgie said. “Maybe we can ask him.”
Gretchen glanced at Arthur, but he looked as clueless as she did about who Lee was. “Who’s Lee?”
“He works… worked for Stonefish,” Amy said. “We don’t actually know what his end goal is.”
“And that makes him potentially dangerous.” Brandon crossed his arms.
“He saved Tess’s life,” Georgie argued.
“We don’t know where he is,” Matt said.
Georgie glanced at the ground and curled a piece of hair around her finger.
“Georgie!” Matt growled. “What have you done?”
She sighed. “Nothing. I occasionally run into him when I’m in the ranges. I don’t go looking for him.”
“You don’t avoid him either,” Darcy surmised.
She pressed her lips together.
Gretchen fought her smile. This appeared to be a long-standing argument. “How dangerous is he?”
“Deadly,” Sam said. “He’s got to have military training.”
“But he hasn’t physically hurt us,” Georgie argued.
“Yet.” Darcy walked over to the kettle and switched it on.
“How about we decide about the treasure first?” Faith suggested.
“The only ones we can trust to tell and keep it from spreading are Dot and Nhiari,” Darcy said. “And they’ll be busy cleaning up the town.”
Sam’s phone rang, startling them all. He withdrew it with a grimace. “Sorry, Ed. I should have called you.”
Ed was the youngest Stokes brother.
Sam put it on speaker. “Everyone’s fine. Power’s out and their phones have died.”
A loud sigh. “I’ve been trying to get hold of someone for hours,” Ed exclaimed.
“We’ve been a little busy,” Georgie said. “Is Tess with you?”
“Yeah, I’ve got you on speaker.”
“No one else is around?” Brandon asked.
“No.”
“We found the treasure,” Lara shouted.
“What?”
