The feel of his skin sliding along mine makes me shiver but I know better than to expect sex. He’s a sneaky tease but there’s something tender and exploratory about his touch. He sighs when he lies his head on my belly. I slide my fingers across his head, allowing the silky strands to slip through my fingers.
“What’s on your mind?” I prompt him.
“That you should go back to sleep,” the smartass deflects.
“Not when I feel like I am providing comfort.”
“Feeling you is comfort enough.”
“And imagine how great it’d be if you told me what’s bothering you. I’m sure even the mighty need someone to listen to their problems.”
“True but not now. Eventually you’ll have more than enough time to be my ear.”
I roll my eyes in the dark. “Is there a Be Mysterious class in god school or something?”
A smile tugs at my lips when his body shakes with his chuckle.
“Go to sleep either voluntarily or with my assistance.”
“Rude.”
“You need all the rest you can get while you’re pregnant. This isn’t a mortal child.”
“Are you going to talk to me about what’s bothering you in the morning?” I know the answer before he speaks.
“No, but I will eventually.”
It’s good enough for now because it must be. I’m happy he at least came to me for a hug.
