He cat-snorts then tilts his head to study me.
Wife?
“According to you that’s what I am, right? Then you got me pregnant like a jackass…” I let the sentence fall between us.
With a huff, he turns away from me and lies back down. I guess I was the last to know about the baby. At least he isn’t raging anymore.
You’re free. Go live your life. I won’t bother you anymore.
His dismissal annoys me. We’ve gone through too much at this point. I know he knows I’m pregnant but that’s not the issue. I’ve grown accustomed to having him around. I’ve learned that I want to be near him or have access to him. The alternative is no longer acceptable.
“That’s now happening either. Look. A baby changes a lot of things and we’d need to be friends at the very least. And just because you’re all magical and mighty doesn’t mean you have to be alone with your feelings. I care if something is hurting you. I will listen if you want to talk.”
I pat his butt and move to his living room then recline to watch television. Remembering Gerald, I call him to tell him everything is fine and there aren’t any exotic pets present.
I watch television for a little over an hour without a peep from the surly god until the most adorable red cockapoo puppy pads along the sofa. After a pause, he hops in my lap, licks my face, then curls up in my lap to go to sleep.
I guess I’m spending the night.
