“Good thing we’re in our own backyard,” I respond with my hand on her ass. “I’d only have to move this little triangle…”
“Axel!” She was going for chastisement, but it’s more of a moan.
“Heeeeey, y’all!”
Ah, one of the major differences from moving. A lot more visitors.
“Fine. Go do your girl’s thing, but know you’ll pay for it tonight,” I whisper so Keri and Latoya cannot hear me.
Heaven shivers then greet her friends. “Y’all, look!”
She swims back to the other side and reminds me we need to work on her form.
“Not an Olympian, but you got it, girl!”
I spend a lot of time laughing at Latoya.
“Good Job! I’m so proud of you, Heaven,” Keri gushes as she claps.
After swimming to the ladies, I lean on the edge and greet her sidekicks. “Hello, ladies, what trouble are you getting into tonight?”
“Only the best kind.”
I know what they’re up to. Heaven is testing me. She wants to know if I can be perfectly sane home alone, or if she’ll return to my rendition ofLord of the Flies. I have no friends to kill though.
I’ll admit. I may feel a little nervous in the beginning, but it’s one of the last things I need to conquer before I can start enjoying my own company again. I used to love that.
“Latoya, you’re in the hospitality business, right?”
“Yes. I’ve worked almost all jobs in a hotel since high school.”
“How married are you to your current company?”
Heaven hands me a towel as I climb out. I still think it’s cute how all three women still release little sighs when I climb out of the pool. I’d think they’d be used to it by now.
“Not at all. I almost cussed my boss out yesterday.”
“So, if I were to invest in a hotel in let’s say...Hawaii, you’d be willing to—”
“When do I leave?”
We all chuckle at her willingness to take the deal.
“Don’t you want the details?”
“Who’s the boss?”
“Well, if I’m investing, I’d be sending you as the General Manager to work with my business partner to get everything ready,” I explain as I run the towel through my hair. “I’m in the investing business now. Axel doesn’t want to run shit. I love not having my phone ring at all times of the night.”
Latoya nibbles on her lip as if she’s considering my proposition. “I’d have to find somewhere to live…”
“Would you?” I ask.
Her light brown eyes snap to my face. “What are you saying, Mr. Behr?”
“After my last trip, I may have purchased a cute little three bedroom and three bathroom penthouse that remains virtually empty.”
I wish I could frame the excitement on her face. “Are you serious. You want to pay me to go to Hawaii and work at your hotel while giving me a free room and board?”
