It took some internal negotiating, but I was able to get us in the limo and on the way to Wassergott without any further incident. Heaven giggled like a minx and floated out of my room when I kicked her out. My blood boiled; I wanted to chase her down and strip those colorful panties off her body and pound into her until she begged for mercy.
Alas, my schedule is booked, and we need to multitask outside of the bedroom. This is the part where we take our lie public. My stomach flips nervously. I hate lying to my parents, but the part that actually bothers me is how I feel like she really is my girlfriend. I look at my woman. She’s checking her email on her phone, and her crossed legs wiggle with each shake of her sandaled foot. Heaven styled her hair in a high, wavy ponytail and a flirty bang that falls over her left eye.
She looks so cute and bangable that I lean over and nibble on her neck. Heaven’s head falls to the side as she drops the phone.
“Axel…” My name off her lips is somewhere between a plea and a warning. She pulls me closer. ”Behave. You said we have things to do…”
She smells lovely. I pull her into a kiss before she can continue her protest. Heaven is right. We’ll be at my office in ten minutes or less. I cannot come in lateandflash my staff with an erection.
With a parting nip, I pull away. “I know, just testing your reaction to random kisses.”
She rolls her eyes in disbelief. “You already know how I respond to any advance remotely sexual from you.”
My response is lost when her tongue darts out to soothe her lips. I take a deep breath and put distance between us.
“Well, stop looking so damn cute.”
Heaven hides her blush with another eye roll. “Why am I coming to work with you, anyway?”
“I have a breakfast bar this morning, and we can get you set up with the technology you need.”
We stop and Paulo opens the door for me. I grab her hand and help her out. Once she’s upright with her purse in tow, I lace our fingers together for show and because I want to anyway. I invite Paulo up for breakfast; since he needs to wait for Heaven, he may as well eat. We chat on the way up. Heaven deep dives into Paulo’s business by learning the names of his woman and children. I’m not one of those employers who pretend that their employees aren’t’ people. I already know the information he’s giving her until I hear the word ‘pregnant.’ I clap his back and congratulate him on his third child. We joke about praying for a boy since he has two daughters.
The elevator doors open and the office buzzes with excited chatter. I hear my employees enjoying each other’s company as they wait for the omelet and waffle bar. My stomach growls at the delicious scents. I skip the line because I am behind schedule. Plus, it’s a perk of being the boss and the one footing the bill.
I have two plates loaded with veggie omelets and turkey bacon and an additional plate with one waffle topped with the works when I motion for her to follow me to my office. Heaven grabs two glasses of orange juice and trails behind me.
Allie is talking to Kristi when I spot her. I notice with some surprise that she is far more dressed up than usual. Her skirt is a little tighter and shorter than usual as well as the peach shirt that shows far more cleavage than I remember. Her light brown hair that’s usually thrown into a haphazard ponytail is now down and flowing in soft waves that frame her face. From her profile, I can catch a hint of color on her face. Make-up? We lock eyes; her relaxed expression, and the soft glow in her eyes, are light years away from the person she was yesterday. If her goal was to look more sultry than innocent, she achieved it. I shoot her a grin, happy to see the happier version of my assistant, but Allie’s expression quickly becomes frosty.
Am I her problem?
“You’re late,” she chides likeshe’sthe boss. Her tone aggravates me immediately.
“I also own the company, so…” I let it hang between us while I do my best not to glare at her.
Kristi does the smart thing and excuses herself. Allie follows me into my office.
“But, I run your schedule and you had appointments.”
I shrug while I set the food down on the visitor’s table. “My phone didn’t ring. It must not have been that important.”
Allie sputters. “I rearranged the schedule. That’s why!”
“As it is your job to do.” I fix her with the first icy glare she’s ever received from me.
“Should I come back?” Heaven checks from the door with only her head peeking inside my office.
My “no” clashes with Allie’s “yes.” I frown at Allie but speak to Heaven.
“Come in, Heaven. Eat your breakfast.”
Heaven tip-toes to the table and unloads the glasses of orange juice then tries again. “I really can wait outside.”
“No,” I say firmer. “You stay. Allie can go.”
Allie’s newly manicured eyebrows shoot up toward her hairline.
“We have business to discuss…”
