He zips the zipper up all the way to my chin and pulls the hood up, buttoning that in place, too. The coat is way too big for me, and I have to push the sleeves up to grab my backpack.
“Give me that.”
Before I can protest, Heath takes my bag in one hand and swoops me up with the other.
“Wait!” I gasp. I’m perched on his hip, my legs dangling. I love the way he handles me. He makes me feel light and dainty, even though I’m not. “I’m too heavy. You’ll hurt yourself.”
Heath doesn’t bother answering, just leaves the room and walks out the front door.
“Did you drive here?” he asks after a minute.
“No, they sent a car for me.”
He nods, and we head over to a fancy-looking SUV. Opening the back door, he sets my backpack inside, then opens the passenger door and gently lowers me onto the seat.
“I could have walked,” I tell him.
“Not in those shoes.”
I groan. “Was it that obvious?”
He looks up at me. “It’s icy, and those shoes aren’t meant to be worn outside.”
“They’re shoes to be fucked in.”
My face flames. I don’t know where those words came from.
Heath stares at me, his gray eyes turning to dark steel. He leans closer. “What do you know about that?”
“N-nothing,” I stammer. “I just… some of the girls were making comments backstage. I’m a virgin. I swear!”
“I don’t care if you are or not.” I blink. “Okay, I do. The thought of another man touching you…”
I wait for him to continue, but he doesn’t.
“You said that we needed to talk?” I remind him.
He straightens. “Right. Let’s go home.”
He closes the door before I can say anything, and I shift in my seat as I watch him climb behind the wheel. He’s so big and rugged. He reminds me of a sexy lumberjack. A super-rich one.
“How… how much did you bid on me?” I ask, shocked that I hadn’t thought about the amount of money before.
“Ten million, but we’re going to talk about that,” he says as we pull out of the driveway and head down the mountain.
“Ten million?” I wheeze.
He gives me a funny look. “Did you need more? Why were you at that fucking auction in the first place?”
“I… TEN MILLION?” I shout, staring at him like he’s crazy.
“Sienna,” he says when I start to hyperventilate.
“Oh, my god. What are you planning to do to me? I mean, for that amount of money, it has to be really fucked up. I shouldn’t have gotten in your car. I shouldn’t have done any of this. I?—”
“Sienna!” Heath slams on the brakes and pulls onto the side of the road.
I take deep breaths as the panic attack hits me.
