“Jealous bitch!” Axle spits.
I peer at Rage. “Did you speak to Bomber?”
He nods. “Yes.”
“I gave a warning punch to the men and threatened the women to leave town. I’ve asked Rage to check that the four of them have left town by tomorrow.”
“Does Garrett know it was Candy?” asks Demon.
I flinch. “It’s a matter of time. Sophie’s family is visiting her tonight. Lawson mentioned that his father is furious. Garrett said if it had anything to do with me, he’ll take it out on the club.” My gaze flicks from one person to the next. “I’m sorry, I should have divorced Sophie when she wanted it. Then we wouldn’t be in shit with her father, and Sophie wouldn’t have gotten hurt.” Self-loathing consumes me.
“She’s your wife,” Reaper responds. “You fight for her. It’s just unfortunate who her father is.”
I snort. “You’re telling me.”
“We’re going to have to come up with a plan for a worst-case scenario. When are you going back to the hospital?” asks Reaper.
“I’m having a shower, grabbing my stuff, then going.”
Reaper looks around the table at the men. “I want everyone to think about the best course of action for how to deal with Garrett. We’ll reconvene tomorrow when Viper returns.”
The clubhouse is quiet, though there’s tension in the air. Demon and Cash are by the bar, so I stride to them.
“She’ll be feeling better and will be back at the club in no time,” says Cash. I appreciate his positivity.
“I hope so,” I reply. I stare off, deep in thought. I don’t think I’d cope if Sophie got hurt again because of me. I doubt she’ll want to be here with me anyway, but on the slight chance she does, I’d love to have a surprise for her, something special for her—if she returns.

TRUTHS UNVEILED
Sophie
I waketo the sound of raised voices.
“That’s enough,” Viper says. “She’s awake.” I try to open my eyes, but my left eye resists my efforts. My dad and brothers are standing around me. Viper is at my side, and he gives me one of his loving smiles, though his eyes don’t shine as bright.
I peer out the window. It’s dark outside, but the fluorescent lights of the hospital are bright. I hear an annoying beep to the side of me. When I lift my hand, I see there’s a needle in it, which is attached to a cord and what looks to be an IV bag.
“Hello, sleepy head,” Harrison says.
I try to smile back, then clear my throat. “Hey… What time is it?” I ask no one in particular.
“Close to seven-thirty,” Alec replies. “Your friend Piper asked that you call her as soon as you can. She wants to fly here to see you.”
As much as I want to talk to her, I’m too tired. “I’m exhausted. Can you tell her I’ll call her tomorrow? I’m sure I’ll be okay. There’s really no need for her to come.”
“I’ll tell her,” Alec answers.
“Can you tell us what you remember?” asks Dad.
My breathing quickens. Viper growls, “She just woke up.”
Dad glares at him. He mustn’t know of Candy’s affiliation with the club yet.
I try to reduce the tension. “Dad, don’t be angry. I told the police everything I can remember.”
His expression softens ever so slightly. “This would never have happened if you’d stayed at the resort or at home.”
