“Has she woken up yet?” I ask quietly.

With a frown, Harrison shakes his head.

“I can stay with her if you guys need to go to work,” I say to them. “I can message you when she wakes.”

Lawson stands, then so does Harrison. “Thanks,” Lawson replies. He peers at my knuckles, a small smile lifts his lips. “You might want to clean yourself up.” I glance downward and see my swollen hand, dotted with blood.

I dip my head. “I will.”

“I hope you put some force behind the punch.”

I chuckle. “They were unconscious when I left. I’ve threatened them to make them leave town. I’ve got men checking they do just that.”

“Them?” Harrison asks. “How many?”

My jaw tightens. “Two men… two women.”

Harrison’s body stiffens. “You’re kidding, right? Four on one…” He shakes his head. “Cowards.”

“That’s what I said!”

“Well… we’ll get out of here. Don’t forget to contact us.”

“I will,” I reply to Lawson. I find the restroom and wash the blood from my hands. When I get back, a nurse is in the room. When her gaze lands on me, her eyes dart away, and she blushes. “How’s she doing?” I ask.

“Still the same,” the nurse replies.

I lean forward, grab Sophie’s hand in mine, and make soothing motions with my thumb. “Do you know how long she’ll be in the hospital for?”

“I’m sorry, I don’t know. I can find a doctor for you.”

“I want Milly when she’s free.” I trust her… no one else.

The nurse tilts her head. “Do you mean Dr. White?”

Dr. White sounds strange. “Yes, that’s her.” The nurse gives me a nod and leaves the room.

Hours drift on by. I shift uncomfortably in the seat. The nurse returns a third time. They seem to check on Sophie every hour. The nurse stares at me, then at the ground and shifts awkwardly on her feet.

“Is there something wrong?” I ask.

“Yes… I mean no… um… you have company… heaps of company. They are in the lobby.”

I get up from my seat and walk to see the whole MC sitting in the waiting area. Axle sees me first and moves to me, giving me a manly slap on the back. “I’m sorry, man. We came as soon as we heard.”

The women rush over with worry-stricken faces. The other men gather around us. “How is she?” Zara asks with a deep frown on her face. Bomber’s arms wrap around her, consoling her.

“Still asleep. The medicine has made her tired.”

“Bomber told us what happened,” says Reaper.

“I’ve got flowers,” says Elena, who has a bunch of bright yellow and pink flowers in her hand.

“I didn’t have time to cook, so I quickly put together some wraps and some snacky food in the bag,” Ava says, peering down at the bag in her hands. The men’s ol’ ladies are amazing women.

“Thank you.” My voice echoes my gratitude.

Milly makes her way to us, and everyone quietens and looks at her.
