Reaper obeys. My mouth goes dry and my anxiety skyrockets. Reaper raises both hands in surrender and takes two steps closer to us.
“I said don’t move,” Beau booms, but motorcycles echo in the air, distracting Beau as he peers behind Reaper.
Reaper launches himself at Beau, but not before another piercing sound rings out. Blood drains from my face, leaving it cold. Within seconds, Reaper disarms Beau and headbutts him, making him fall. Reaper stands over him, aiming Beau’s own gun at him. Then another gunshot cracks in the air, blending with loud motorcycles and a scream.
Beau’s arm bleeds.
Reaper puts the gun in his holster and steps toward me. His eyes scan my face and body, then he pulls me into his chest. The tears come quickly as I melt into him. My arms are around him and I’m clinging to him like he might disappear.
“I’ve got you. You’re safe now.” He tenderly kisses the top of my head.
My arms only hold him tighter. His scent, and his warmth, engulfs me. Being in his arms is my happy place, my home.
“I thought I’d never see you again.”
His lips curve up into a sexy smile. There’s a cold sensation on my shoulder but then a thought comes to mind, so I pull back.
“Did you see Elena and Conan?” I ask, struggling to draw air into my lungs. “Are they okay? Are they alive?”
“Pres, is everything all right?” Viper says from beside us, gun in hand.
“We have a doctor and a vet on the way to the clubhouse. They should be there soon. Axle and Rage pulled them both from the car, mostly superficial injuries, but Conan might have a broken leg,” Bomber answers me.
A weight lifts from my chest. “Thank you.”
When I peer down at my shoulder, it’s still cool, but it’s wet and red. I gasp. It’s blood!I lift my shirt a little to see under it, but there’s no wound.
“You’ve been shot!” Bomber says.
Horror widens my eyes when I look up at Reaper, blood oozing from between his heart and shoulder, soaking his shirt.
Panic shoots through me as Viper says, “I’ll call the doc.”
Reaper takes his shirt off, but I snatch it from him and apply pressure to the wound.
“You shouldn’t have done that,” I say to him as guilt takes a hold of my throat. Tears fall.
“I’ve been through worse.” His hand clasps the side of my face, and I lean into it. “As long as you’re okay.”
“Fucking lowlife scum!”
I turn to see Demon bend down and punch Beau in the face.
He stands and smiles his evil smile. “That’s more like it!” Then he looks to Reaper with a raised brow. “I thought you were a perfect shot.”
“I am, but I didn’t want him to bleed out...”
My eyes bounce between the two, confused.
Demon’s grin spreads and excitement flashes in his eyes. He looks back at Beau. “Oh, we’re going to have some fun with you.”
His voice is unnerving. I think I know what he means, but that thought goes to the back of my head. All I care about is Reaper right now. I feel a coolness in my hand, so I glance up to see blood soaking through Reaper’s shirt.
“Reaper needs the doc now!” I cry out.
“I’ll get Rage to bring the other van back so him and Demon can pick up this piece of shit,” Viper says as he tilts his head in Beau’s direction.
Reaper sways and takes a step forward but falls. A scream tears from my mouth, but Bomber and Viper are on either side of him, holding him upright. They move briskly to the van, and I follow them.
