“I’m your physical therapist. That’s what I’m here for.”

I roll my eyes. “I don’t think most physical therapists do home visits like this, nor do they eye-hump their clients.”

She groans. “I wasnot.”

“Whatever you say, Baby” I grin, turning the TV on for a much-needed distraction from the connection between us.

Only Lainey could make this day better. If I were here alone right now, I would be losing my mind. Although that’s still happening, but for completely different reasons.

I turn on a movie, just something to fill the silence and gaps between our conversation.

She plops down next to me, pulling her legs up into crisscross applesauce, and drapes a blanket over her lap. “We should get new ice on that soon.”

“Yeah,” I exhale, hating any reminder of the journey to come.

There are so many unanswered questions between us, and life somehow keeps getting in the way. I want to tell her how I feel about her, how I always have. But thenthishappens. What’s next? Will there always be hurdles in our path toward one another?

Lord knows I can’t take much more.

“How long do you want me to stay?” Her voice is soft and gentle.

Forever.

“It’s pretty late. Do you want to crash here tonight? Food should be here in a few.” I pause, my heart rate spiking at the idea of her sleeping here. “I can get you a cab in the morning if you want, or you can use my car for whatever.”

For a moment, I start thinking that she doesn’t want to, but then she turns to me. “Can I borrow a T-shirt?”

“Of course.”

Fucking hell. They’re all yours. Everything I am and everything I own is too.

CHAPTER 16

LAINEY

My heart is hammeringin my chest as I slip Jensen’s T-shirt on over my head, immediately getting drunk on his intoxicating scent. Ocean waves, clean, and a hint of apple.

The pizza was delicious, and I ate way too much of it. We’re definitely going to have to try that place again. But my food baby is the least of my problems right now.

Is staying here tonight a bad idea?

Probably, but there’s no way I’m leaving him alone after today, especially after the way he cried out for me in the tunnel and on the ice, looking at me like I was the only person in the entire world who could make it all better. I know without a doubt that he wouldn’t leave me if the roles were reversed.

He’s on the phone with Luca when I stride into his bedroom to say good night,Bob’s Burgersplaying softly on the TV.

“I’ll keep you updated,” he murmurs as his gaze flicks over to me, his chest rising with an inhale as his eyes fall to the tops of my bare thighs. “Love you, man. Bye.”

He ends the call and drops his phone on the bed beside him. “They kind of fit you.”

I chuckle, glancing down at his oversize shirt, which stops at my upper thighs, and a pair of his basketball shorts, which godown past my knees. I feel like a toddler who played dress-up in their dad’s closet.

“Sort of.” I smile, awkwardly standing in the doorway.

“I’m not going to bite you if you come closer.” His intense stare holds me in place.

I’m not scared of his bite. If anything, I’m scared of wanting it as badly as I do and being anywhere closer to him.

“I know.” Forcing my leg forward, I take a step and another as my heart slowly rises into my throat.
