I glance around, making sure our teammates aren’t listening, and wipe my palms on my thighs.
Quit stalling and just get it over with.
“What do you do when someone’s ignoring your texts?”
My roommates stare at me, all three of them slack jawed.
So much for the band aid approach.
I don’t know if it’s the change in subject throwing them off or the fact that I’m looking for dating advice, but who else am I going to ask? I’m sure as hell not asking Gran.
It’s bad enough she sent me a value pack of Magnum Gold condoms.
And yet that still wasn’t as bad as the handwritten note she’d included:Big hands aren’t the only thing that runs in the family.
I shudder at the memory.
“Oh, shit.” Parker straightens in his seat. “Our boy has been ghosted.”
Heat burns my cheeks, but it’s a small price to pay. Every single one of these guys has more experience with women than I could ever hope to have. Sure, I was raised by two women and I’ve watched every rom-com under the sun, but none of what I know seems to work on Piper.
Maybe she’s just not that into you.
Bullshit. Our date went well. Her body language was open. She didn’t shy away from my touch, and she told me she had a great time when we said goodbye.
“I’m going to need more information.” Coop leans forward, resting his elbows on his knees. “Is this someone male or female?”
“Does it matter?”
“Hell, yes, it matters.” He gives me a disbelieving look. “Men and women are wired totally different.”
I scrub a hand over my face, certain I’m going to regret my next words. “Her name is Piper.”
“Has she blocked you? Taken out a restraining order?”
He can’t be serious.
“This sounds like the voice of experience,” Parker says, cutting in. “Please tell me you don’t have a restraining order against you, DeLaurentis, because I feel like that’s something Coach would want to know.”
“No, I don’t have a fucking restraining order. What kind of creep do you think I am?” Coop shoots him an indignant look and points to his chest. “I’m the protected party.”
It’s too late to turn back now.
“Look,” Coop says, returning his attention to me. “I’m just saying that if I saw you coming at me on a dark street with that big ass beard…”
I give him the finger.
“Don’t shoot the messenger.” He throws up his hands in self-defense. “There’s a fine line between sweet and scary, and you’re walking it.”
“Screw you. I trimmed my beard last week.” I stroke it for emphasis. “I’m surprised you didn’t notice sooner since you’re so obsessed with me.”
“Can we get back on topic?” Reid asks, taking charge. “First things first. Is this woman playing hard to get or is she legit not interested? Because you don’t want to be the entitled douche who can’t accept the word no.”
“Facts,” Parker says, nodding along. “It’s not a good look.”
I scan my roommates’ faces. “How do you know the difference?”
“Hell if I know.” Coop flashes his trademark grin. “I’ve never had a woman turn me down before.”
