“So, are you finally going to tell me about your doctor’s appointment?” he asks, finding my reflection in the mirror.

I lift my legs and cross them on the bed, fidgeting with my hands. “It didn’t go how I thought.”

He’s going to be happy. Even after I got the phone call yesterday that the blood test came back positive, I’m still so scared it’s not true, since I haven’t actually missed a period yet.

“What does that mean?” He turns around with a concerned look on his face, but I’m distracted because my libido goes into overdrive seeing his assets on display.

“You’re gonna need to cover up so we can have this conversation without me falling to my knees.”

“Well, I wouldn’t complain,” he says, but he goes to the suitcase and pulls out a pair of joggers.

He sits on the bed, but I get up. He groans.

“I’ll be right back.” I go to my suitcase and pick up the present I wrapped this morning for him.

He frowns. “We weren’t exchanging our gifts for each other while we were here, I thought?”

I shake my head and go back over to the bed, placing the gift on the mattress beside him. “It’s kind of for both of us anyway.” I nudge it closer.

He stares at me then picks it up, unwrapping it. After he tears off the paper, he stares at the white box for a beat, then lifts the lid. My heart races as he digs through the tissue paper, finding his bucket list. I put a check mark on number forty.

He looks up and his mouth falls open. “What? When? How? I’m so confused.”

Tears slip down my cheeks. “I’m not late. The doctor did a urine pregnancy test and then did my bloodwork as a precaution, and both came back positive.”

He tosses the list aside and grabs me, lifting me so I straddle him. “Really?”

I nod. “But I’m still really scared. I mean, it’s so early, Conor.”

My tears fall without stopping. They’re from both happiness and fear. And the fact that he’s finally here with me and I can tell him how I’m feeling.

“Hey, it’s a good thing. A great thing. You’re pregnant, and whatever happens, we’ll get through it, but in this moment, we’re only going to be happy about this, okay? We have no reason to feel otherwise. So, let’s be optimistic and enjoy thismoment.” His hand covers my stomach, and he leans in to kiss me.

I dodge it. “There’s one more thing.”

“What? Is it twins?”

I shake my head. “No. Too early to tell that. Jade was at the doctor, and she was in the room with me, so she knows. I’m sorry—she knew first.”

He laughs. “Okay.” He says it casually, as if he isn’t hurt by it.

“You’re not mad?”

He tucks a strand of my hair behind my ear and stares into my eyes. “Babe, never. I’m glad she was there for you when I couldn’t be.”

I wrap my arms around his neck and close any distance between us. “I love you so much.”

“I love you too, Mommy.”

I draw back and shake my head.

He only laughs harder then shouts with excitement, causing everyone to barge into our room moments later.

We rush overto Eloise and Conor’s room, and Bodhi opens the door before we can stop him. I throw my hands over his eyes until I see that they’re both dressed.
