“How about I go first? Ask me anything. I’m an open book.” Chase leaned back in his chair, exuding a confidence that Maggie wished she had.

“Okay… where are you from?”

“Alabama.”

“What brought you to LA?”

“Um… I’ll say music.”

“How’d you end up bartending?” Maggie was having fun with this now.

“Gotta pay rent.”

“What’s your biggest fear?”

Chase squirmed a little in his chair and chuckled uncomfortably, “Okay, okay, dang, I didn’t realize you’d jump right to the third degree. Your turn. Spill lady. What’s in the notebook?”

Maggie shifted nervously in her chair. “I’m warning you—it’s super lame.”

“I’m ready.” Chase leaned forward intently.

“Okay, the first list I made was the colors I like and dislike. I started super basic.”

“Alright, let me see.” Chase examined the list:

Colors:

Like

Green

Pink

Blue

Orange

Yellow

Brown

Dislike

Red

Brown

“What’s your beef with red? You like brown more than red?” Chase glanced at her perplexed.

“Red is the color of anger. No one likes red do they?” Maggie squinted at him.

“You must be a pessimist to see red as the color of anger. I thought red was the color of passion.”

“Let me guess, your favorite color is red?”

“To be honest, I haven’t really thought about my favorite color since grade school, but if I had to choose, then yes. I think I would pick red… or maybe more specifically crimson. Roll Tide.”

“You lost me.”
