“Sure, do you have time?”

Chase glanced at his watch. He had approximately ten minutes before he needed to be at work but he prayed—Please God, make time stop for a few minutes.

“I have a couple minutes.”

He followed Maggie up the stairs to the second floor and watched her stop in front of door number 203. “Well, this is home. I’d invite you in, but it’s pretty sad. I have like one piece of furniture.”

“No, it’s all good. I should get going. Thanks again for breakfast and coming to church.” Chase noticed one piece of her hair sneaking out of place and jumped at the opportunity to tuck it away behind her ear.Thank you Lord for that strand of hair.

“It was fun.” Maggie smirked at him. Then she turned with her key in hand.

Chase’s breath caught in his chest. He so badly wanted to kiss her, but didn’t know if the moment was right. “See you tomorrow, Minnesota Maggie.”

Maggie gave a small wave. It was getting harder and harder to walk away from her.

Chapter 22

Maggie

Onthewaytothe bar, Maggie thought about her time with Chase the day before. It was sweet how he always used her wispy hair as a reason to touch her face.

As she opened the door to The Break, she scanned the bar and found it unusually busy for a Monday afternoon. Chase gave her a quick wave and pointed to a spot at the bar counter. Maggie hauled herself and her messenger bag onto the bar stool. Sensing it could be a few minutes, she pulled out her notebook and added to her list of ten new things.

My 10 New Things:

Only two more to go.Celeste had asked Maggie to reschedule to an earlier date, so now she only had two more days to complete her homework. Maggie tapped her pen on her chin and then began chewing on the cap.

“What's on your mind, champ?”

Chase threw down the towel that had been resting on his shoulder and started wiping the counter.

“Ah… just my new things list. I have two more things to do before I meet with Celeste on Wednesday.”

“Oh you got this, no problem.”

“Yeah? Any ideas for my last two things?”

Chase leaned forward with his elbows on the bar. “Hmm… We could create your very own drink because… we need to celebrate.”
