“She’s hot,” one of the guys said.
“I know, right?” Josh said.
“I can’t believe you get to tap that,” another guy said.
Anger continued to bubble up inside me.
“Yep, anytime I want,” Josh said, and I could hear the cockiness from here.
Hurt mixed with the anger, and I felt the pinprick of oncoming tears. Taking a big breath, I walked faster, needing to get some air.
Pushing open the doors, I gulped in the warm air and worked to control my emotions.
This was officially the worst first day of school. I hated it here. I hated how Josh wasn’t acting like the guy I loved and had dated forever. I hated that I didn’t know which way my class was. And I hated how I had nobody to turn to right now.
I thought about skipping my class and going back to my apartment, but it was my last class of the day, and I knew I probably shouldn’t miss the first day.
Following the map on my screen, I made it easily to my class, for once, and counted down the minutes until I could walk home.
The class seemed to drag on like some kind of cruel torture, but I’d made it through, and now my apartment building was in sight. I’d never been so happy to see it.
I was going to grab a bag of chips and veg out in front of Netflix for the next hour or so before starting in on my homework. I picked up my pace a little at knowing that relaxation and peace were just within my reach.
A black four-door Jeep caught my attention, the engine revving as it pulled quickly into the parking lot in front of my apartment building.
I rolled my eyes. Speeding in parking lots made yousocool.
The door to the jeep opened and out stepped a handsome guy with black hair and a body I wasn’t sure how anyone could have, let alone fit it in that Jeep.
He made his way toward the sidewalk, and when his eyes landed on me, I stopped walking.
A smile filled his face. “Isla from Kinesiology.”
He remembered my name? Sigh.
Okay, stop it. I blinked a few times and mentally shook my head.
It had only been like five hours ago—of course he would remember my name. Gosh, what was wrong with me?
He stepped up and joined me on the sidewalk. “Are you stalking me?”
I could see the teasing gleam in his eye, but I was still quick to defend myself. “What? No!”
He chuckled. “Then how did you find out where I live?”
My mouth dropped open. No way. “You live here?”
“Yep, I’ve been here three years. I guess someone could have told you easily enough. Especially if you’ve been asking around.”
Was it weird that I thought the mischievous look in his eyes made him even hotter? Probably, but it was true nonetheless.
“I wasnotasking around about you,” I assured him. “I live here too.”
“It must be my lucky day,” he smirked.
I tried to not let his words affect me, but I could feel my cheeks heating up. Dang him! He had me blushing way too often.
He tilted his head and looked at me with amusement. “Does your boyfriend know how easily you blush?”
