“Delaying it? Is that what you’ve been doing?”
Kenji shrugged. “Maybe.”
“Why?”
“I no longer have an income,” Kenji said.
“You could always ask me,” Qylar murmured.
As if Kenji was going to ask his mate to hand over money to buy his own Christmas present. Too bad he wasn’t crafty, perhaps he could’ve made something.
“Just so we’re clear, you don’t have to get meanythingfor Christmas. You’ve given me way too much as it is,” Kenji said.
“What exactly have I given you?”
“Moving me into the townhouse. Flying me across the universe. Your friends hosting me on Nefyria. Spending weeks here and covering those expenses. Putting up more decorations than any one house needs.”
“Those aren’t gifts. What actual gifts have I given you?”
“Gifts or not, you’ve spent enough time and money on me.”
Qylar dried his hands off and pulled him closer. “I’m not letting Christmas pass without giving you something under the tree. It’s tradition, is it not?”
“Sure,” Kenji said, forcing a smile. “I need to use the bathroom. I’ll be right back.”
“I’ll finish up this last few dishes then head upstairs to get dressed.”
Kenji rushed into the bathroom off the kitchen and closed the door. He pulled his cell phone out of his pocket and pulled up his banking app. He couldn’t remember exactly how little he had left in there. Maybe he could get creative with what he had.
As if I can get creative with nothing in a town like Aspen. It was a rich man’s playground with shop names displaying expensive brands. He didn’t have the money for that.
Only… he did.
When he opened his account, it wasn’t empty. Far from it. A million dollars had been deposited into his account weeks ago. He opened the deposit transaction and had no idea where it had come from.
How?
Was it a mistake? Realization hit. There was only one person he knew of who would’ve done it.
He stormed out of the bathroom and marched to where Qylar stood at the sink, drying his hands.
“What is this?” Kenji asked, showing Qylar his screen.
Qylar peeked at it for a second and shrugged. “Looks like money in a bank account to me.”
“Qylar, I know this is you.”
From the indolent look on Qylar’s face, Kenji knew he was right. “How could I have done that? I don’t have access to your account information.”
“With all your alien gadgetry, I’m sure you have ways of finding it and putting funds in there.”
Qylar lifted a brow but said nothing.
“Wheredid it come from?” Kenji demanded.
“I don’t know,” Qylar replied.
“Is it legal?”
