“Listen, Eva.” He sucked in a breath and his eyes rounded. His expression morphed into one I’d not seen on him before.
My throat closed up.Why is he looking at me like that?Dorian noticeably inhaled harder. He swiped under his nose with his other hand, taking away the smear left behind.
I sniffed myself, the caramel scent finally registered in my brain.
Mierda.
“What’s that smell?” He met my eyes and inhaled again. His pupils dilated, and a rumble vibrated in his chest.
No, no, no, he can’t smell me! But he was blocking the exit. I did the only thing I could, and ran to the left of the hall, aiming to get to that godforsaken window in the bathroom that I’d been trying to escape from the first day I arrived at this torturous hell.
My leg muscles burned with the exertion, yet I kept pushing until I couldn’t feel them. The thundering footsteps gained on me, the sound deafening. Eachthunkcaused my heart to shrivel.
He’d catch me. I ripped the room door open, rushed past the only piece of furniture near the left wall, and burst into the attached bathroom. They would take me and never let me go. I stomped on the toilet and hoisted myself up, my fingers clawing against the lip of the window. They’d do what they pleased. I yanked up, using every inch of my strength.
It opened only an inch when an arm wrapped around my middle. My feet went flying, and I was in his arms, being carried away from my last-ditch effort to escape. I clawed at the edge of the bathroom door, managing to get a grip.
I kicked back, meeting flesh. With the grunt came freedom. My feet landed on the floor, a pinch in my ankle stinging. Whirling, I faced him, putting a hand up.
“Get away from me!” I knew I shouted even if I couldn’t hear past the thundering in my ears. My throat burned, the soreness radiating.
He froze, and I went silent, trying to get control of my gasps. Slick was already beginning to gather, need growing by the minute. Ihad toget my breathing under control. Their scent . . . I bit my lip to contain my moan.
Dorian watched me.
“Y-you’re,” he paused, exhaling sharply. He shook his head, blinking owlishly.
I dragged in a breath and held it. Meanwhile, he reeled, a tremble beginning at his hands. My heart was pounding too fast, and I struggled to control my breathing.
Coffee. Sweet, delicious, coffee. Slick gushed between my thighs, making a mess between them.
Dorian snarled, his irises expanding.
A whine slipped free from my lips. I wanted nothing more than to rub up against him. Touch every inch of his flesh.
The Haze was about to hit me, and I’d be mindless.
Chapter 21
His eyes became glassy, and he frowned. Dorian breathed in deep, his nose flaring from the force.
The Repressitol wore off.
I stumbled back, and he staggered forward like a man possessed. The fucking Repressitol wore off.
“You’re ours?” he said, awed and unsure. My heart leapt. “You’re ours!” This time it was a bellow.
I flinched back against the wall beside the doorframe. There was a long chaise lounge closer to the wall. I bolted around it and gripped the back. He hadn’t moved an inch. He knew he had me trapped without a way to escape.
“You’remine.”
With his lips parted like that and his eyes so wide, Dorian looked younger . . . more vulnerable. He had no right to look at me softly like that. No right at all to reach his hand out. His chestinflated, and I could have sworn his eyes rolled back with his inhale.
I noted the determination before he stepped toward me. I stiffened, waiting until he rounded the couch to bolt to the other side so he couldn’t reach me.
“Leave me alone!” My throat hurt from the volume of my screams.
Thundering footsteps approached, becoming louder and louder. I sucked in a breath and held it. There were only two people those steps could belong to, and more of their scent around me would just send me over the edge.
