Master Gee yelled, making sure his voice carried out into the hallways. “Gale, bring her to me."

We heard anoofof pain from Gale.

"Little bitch!"

Our captor laughed and motioned with his blaster toward the dark hall. "Bring her out, Gale."

Gale appeared from the hallway dragging Smith along by the wrist, a bruise already forming on her cheek. Her eyes were wild but clear. She wasn't panicked, she was thinking. She looked regal, like a queen. Her hair was in disarray, she had blood on her knuckles and her incredibly sexy little gown had ripped, leaving her all but naked. Yet, she stared down our captor like she was the one holding the blaster. She had never looked more perfect.

My stomach knotted. Fuck. I wanted her. I'd tried not to, but it was too fucking late. I had tried to remain unaffected by her charms. Geros has insisted that Kayson come to the club tonight because he'd known he wouldn’t be able to keep his hands off her. Now I understood his struggle. I wanted her. I wanted to taste every inch of her skin and bury my cock in her wet heat.

I wanted to keep her. Just like Geros and Kayson. And like them, I was sure to be disappointed. But first, we had to get out of here alive.

Her gaze moved from Master Gee to Amok, then to Kayson and me. She took a step toward us, only to have Gale wrap his arm around her neck from behind, pulling her back against his chest. Her hands flew to his forearm, clawing at him, trying to breathe.

"She dies, I will take a year to kill you." My tone was cold as ice in winter. Gale smiled at me but didn't loosen his hold.

Smith fought, kicked and threw her body from side to side. Kayson rose to his feet but a blaster shot stuck his thigh and he fell to one knee.

Fuck. Time to rush him and fight our way out of here. Gale and Amok would be easy to take out. The real threat was Master Gee.

I looked from Smith to Master Gee and found his blaster now pointed squarely at Smith. "Move and she dies."

I froze in place, not willing to put her in even more danger. She was still fighting, which meant she was still alive.

And then, her body went limp in Gale's arms. Unsure of what to do, the younger guard loosened his hold and watched her limp body slide to the floor. She didn't move. She didn't breathe. Her face was covered with her hair and not one strand changed position. Her chest did not rise and fall. She was perfectly still. Gone.

Something inside me broke.

Gale moved toward us, stepping over her body like he was leaving behind a piece of trash.

Rage consumed me. “I'm going to strip your skin from your bones and watch you bleed."

Master Gee laughed and shot Kayson in the other leg because he could.

And then he turned to me.

Smith

Thank god.I thought that buffoon was never going to leave. I can only hold my breath for so long, and this idiot had pushed me to my limit.

Still, I didn't move too quickly. I moderated the air coming into my body so no one would notice the slight rise and fall of my chest. Warmth flooded me at the vehemence of Mal’s threat.

I’m going to strip your skin from your bones and watch you bleed.

Not exactly poetry, but I’d take it. Maybe Mal wasn’t as indifferent as he’d seemed.

I'd never had a man be so protective, so concerned about me. Sure, I'd worked with partners before, but I'd not made the mistake of sleeping with any of them. I’d had Colleagues. Acquaintances. Casual friends.

I kept my work out of the bedroom.

Mal sounded like his heart was literally being ripped from his chest. Like he cared about me. Maybe far more than I had realized or hoped. Hope was generally in short supply in my system. I didn’t like to waste it on dreams I knew would never come true—such as being loved and adored by three gorgeous aliens who were absolute animals in the bedroom.

Well, at least two of them were. Maybe if I had enough time, I could break down Mal’s resistance and he’d fuck me, too. Or maybe not. Maybe I’d stick to my vacation plan, spend some time here and find a nice Dom downstairs that wasn’t a psychotic asshole like Master Gee.

Whole lotta maybes rolling through my mind for a girl who’s supposed to be dead.
