“But how is it possible?” More laughter. She was getting really tired of them laughing at her expense.

“See when a man and woman love each other, he puts his—” Hannah lobbed a pillow at her sister.

“I know how it happens. It is just I can’t get pregnant.”

“I’m going to the pharmacy and get a test.” Her sister announced as she stood.

“But all those years with Jeremiah.” Hannah stated.

“A lot of women have problems conceiving when they are stressed out. You put so much pressure on yourself. I will tell you a secret, women are more fertile when they are loved and cared for.” Her mother offered.

“Or the problem could have been him.” Her sister offered.

“Well, no, he got his wife pregnant.”

“Did he though?” her mother asked. “Anyway Lisabeth, go to the store. Your sister needs proof.”

“Start drinking water. I’ll be back.” Lisabeth did a horrible impersonation of the terminator.

Lizabeth returned with a dozen tests. “Why on earth did you get so many?” Her little sister could be so over the top.

“Because you are stubborn. And I’m sure this will be a lot for you to digest.” Her sister responded.

SAMUEL

Samuel didn’t like this at all. Poppy Deville had requested a couple’s meeting with him. However, she had arrived without her husband. What she did arrive with was a low cut skintight mini skirt and six-inch heels. Apparently, she thought it was Halloween and she was going for the Basic Instinct Sharon Stone. This scenario was giving off a bad vibe. He knew when a woman was trying to seduce him.

“Thank you for seeing me Pastor Samuel would it be okay if I just call you Samuel?” Samuel was tempted to offer her an inhaler. She sounded like she was Marilyn Monroe’s voice double. Her voice was so breathy. Did she think this was supposed to be attractive? He almost felt bad for her.

“I don’t think that’s appropriate. How can I help you?” Samuel wasn’t about to handle her with kid gloves. She’d mistake it for something it wasn’t.

Poppy’s smile faltered for a moment before she plastered a bright smile on her face.

“Well, the matter I wanted to discuss is personal. Do you mind if we close the office door.”Hell, no Lady! She didn’t pose a temptation. Not in the least. That didn’t mean Samuel would allow her to place him in a compromising situation. To cast a disparaging shadow on his marriage. If he allowed this to happen it would be disrespectful to his wife. He had the perfect solution. Poppy wasn’t going to be happy.

“Sure, give me a moment.” Excusing himself he left the room. He suppressed the urge to power walk to the church secretary.

“Hey Corinth,” Samuel greeted. “Do you happen to know where my wife is?”

“She is still in the woman’s ministry group, but they should be wrapping up.”

“Where did they decide to hold the meeting?”

“The west atrium.”

“Thank you. If you could offer Ms. Deville something to drink, I’d appreciate it.”

Corinth gave him a knowing smile. “Will do. I’ll let her know you had something to take care of and will be back in a tick.”

“Thank you.” Corinth was easy to get along with. Like them she was a preacher’s kid. She was very respectful of their privacy. Unlike other ministries no leaks came from the church secretary.

Samuel arrived at the west atrium to find that the meeting had disbursed. Hannah smiled when she saw him. She looked beautiful. Of course, she always did, but in the last few days she seemed to glow. He was happy that she was feeling better. For a few weeks, she had been wearing her exhaustion. He had been concerned, but just encouraged her to get more rest. The last few days, his mom had been dropping off bone broth at the house. It seemed to have helped her.

“Hello,” She greeted him when she walked over to him.

“Hey,” Samuel placed a quick peck on her cheek. She had become accustomed to his affection. At first, she had baulked about him displaying affection at church.“We are to lead by example. Showing my love for you is setting the right tone. A pastor who is in love with his wife and makes it known is the correct tone for our ministry.”They kept it respectful, and Hannah became used to it.
