“Why are you eating in my bed, woman?”
“Beds were made for eating.” Her friend wiggled her eyebrow. “You want one?” Roxy offered.
“No, I don’t eat in here and you stop it.”
“Okay, warden. Tell me what happened this weekend? Everything. How can I be jealous if I am not informed?”
“It went well. Club Desire was very cool. Our chemistry was good. It was fun and now it’s over. The end. Ouch, fuck!” Seraphina cried out as Roxy reached over and pinched the meaty part of her arm.
“What the hell Seraphina? You ran, didn’t you?”
“Of course, you would assume it was me!” Seraphina kicked off her covers. “Our chemistry was crazy. He delivered everything I’ve ever wanted in a partner. Was I scared? Hell yes.” Tears stung her eyes. “As soon as he kissed me on the plane, I knew I was fucked. My mistake, though, was not running.” She swiped at a wayward tear.
“What happened?” Roxy’s concern was apparent.
“We had an amazing time. Then he patted my head like a good girl and sent me home. The End. It’s so stupid that I'm crying, isn't it? Most likely, it was the tears that made him run for the hills in the first place.”
“Hold the phone? When did you cry?” Roxy looked super concerned.
Seraphina’s face flushed. “We were doing this sensory play…” She looked up at her friend through her lashes. “…and I came a couple more times. It was great. Then the last time I was bawling my head off like a baby.”
“Ah. Poor baby.” Roxy stood and hugged her. “And what did he do?” Her friend didn’t sound like her happy-go-lucky self.
“Evan was great. He held, soothed, and stayed with me until I fell asleep. When I woke up, I felt great, but I could sense him pulling away. Before it happened, it felt like he wanted more. I don’t get it.”
“Hmm, I think I might be able to shed some light. Let’s go to the kitchen and talk. Bring my croissants.”
Once they were settled at the table, Roxy explained. “Simply put, all that great sex overwhelmed your senses. You said Evan was a Dom before he lost his sight, right?”
“Yeah,” she answered while nibbling on the croissant.
“Has he had a partner since he lost his sight?”
“No.”
“Okay then. Well, mystery solved. You guys just need to talk. I think he might feel bad that you got overwhelmed.”
Roxanne left Seraphina with a lot to think about. If Roxy was right, it must have freaked Evan out to have his first unsighted experience not go as he planned. It must have been a traumatic experience for him. It would have been nice if he had talked to her about things. Now Seraphina needed to decide if she should quit while she was ahead or if she should reach out to him and lay her cards on the table. She loved the ease with which they could communicate and the effortless chemistry they shared. Of course, she had to prepare herself that he might just not be interested. What to do? Maybe she should create one of those pro and con lists.
Her stomach grumbled. Seraphina decided to get something to eat and then tackle her problem. The idea of going out didn’t appeal to her. The bell rang as she rummaged through her pantry. She wasn’t expecting anyone. So maybe Roxy was using her home training.
“Hey—” At the sight of Evan, Seraphina’s greeting faded. Her mouth dropped open and her eyes were wide open as she stared at him. Breathing slowly, she placed her hand over her heart. She finally spoke, her voice barely above a whisper. “Evan, what are you doing here?”
“Can I come in? I owe you an explanation.” His directness really worked for her. No wonder she was so drawn to him.
“Of course, you can come in.” Seraphina gave him instructions to find his way around her living room, since her space was unknown to him. It was rare to see him use his cane. Being here must have been important to him.
“Can I get you something to drink?” she offered once they had taken a seat. They shared the same sofa. He was on one end while she sat on the other. Despite being curious about the reason for his visit, she did not abandon her hospitality.
“No, thank you. I’m alright.” Evan reached out his hand in her direction, and Seraphina couldn’t resist. She closed the gap between them and placed her hand in his. As soon as they touched, there was a spark. It was then that he brought their hands to his lips and kissed her hand. “This feels a lot like déjà vu. I owe you yet another apology.” He caressed her hand as he continued. “I wanted to apologise for not seeing you home… I should have. The issue wasn’t urgent enough to prevent me from putting it off. I chose not to.”
“Why did you choose not to?” Seraphina asked. If he had come all this way, they would clear the air. If they had any hope of building on the chemistry that came organically to them, they needed to be fully transparent with their feelings.
“Our sensation play had an unexpected outcome, which threw me for a loop, and I handled the fallout poorly.”Well, that was clear as mud.
“What do you mean?” Seraphina wasn’t satisfied with Roxy’s explanation. She wanted to hear what had gone wrong between them directly from Evan.
“I didn’t take proper care of your emotional needs during our play. If I am being honest, it is a combination of things. Partly, despite my overconfidence, I thought I could return to being a Dom without my sight. I’ve been able to adjust to everything else. You had a lot to do with my ability to adapt. During our sensation play, I lost sight of how to take care of you because of my strong feelings for you.”
