Riley turned to the vampire, who she had been doing her best to stop watching.I swear, he looks more handsome every time I see him.“How does your clan make money?”
Kraft shrugged. “Hecate and Mormo give us what we need. In Germany, when I was of the Black Fang Wolf clan, we hired out to magir for protection. A lot of cities and towns thriving in black market items paid to have us protect their wares. Mercenary jobs. They were fun.”
“Oh. So you had a regular job?”
He nodded. “Like now. Except the work we do for Hecate, policing rogues and tracking down magical items, is more dangerous.” Kraft smiled, showing sharp teeth. “It’s never boring, though we are sick of gods and goddesses trying to screw with us.”
“How so?” Max leaned closer.
Paz perked up as well, listening hard, his ears twitching.
Riley tried not to smile. He was just so cute for a demon.
“Well, there have been a few gods who congregate on another plane Hecate’s in charge of. Sometimes they fight, and sometimes they try to mess around with her. She uses us to remind them to back off. Then there’s this Morpheus guy...”
He said nothing more, but Max looked interested. “Morpheus, the Greek god of sleep?”
“Of dreams,” Kraft muttered. “We vampires don’t dream. Not usually.”
That’s cheating!Paz looked incensed.
“What?” Riley asked.
That he’d invade the vampires that way. They are blocked, not supposed to dream at all.Paz scowled. That self-righteous prick. Wait until I see him again.
Riley didn’t understand, and didn’t want to. “Well, lycans dream, but I don’t think I’ve ever met the god of dreams. And we’re off topic.”
“Yeah.” Max nodded. “We need to find out where the artifact is.”
“Why not ask your thief?” Kraft suggested.
Riley glanced at him, sensing something different between them. It wasn’t just sex, though that had been phenomenal. She didn’t feel as if she’d softened toward him. If anything, she wanted to see him fight even more, to see how strong he really was. Huh. Her growing battle lust in regards to Kraft felt weird, as if she considered him lycan. A possible mate.
No, that’s not happening. It can’t.
And the most insane question she could think of—did she want it to?
He met her gaze and lifted a brow.
She flushed and turned back to Max, who seemed to benotwatching them pretty intently.
“Antonia won’t talk to me,” her cousin said. “She refuses to be anywhere I can get her alone, and her mother and brother or his soldiers have been watching her like a hawk the entire time she’s been here. If I could grab her without causing a huge pack incident, I would.”
“I’ll get her.”
Riley narrowed her eyes on Kraft. “How? You going to bite her?”
The snap in her own question startled her. Because she sounded jealous even to her own ears.
Kraft gave her a smug smile.
Don’t say it. Don’t you dare.
He said it. “Jealous,Liebling?”
“Ass.” She refused to look at her cousin, to see how he might be handling this.
Kraft refused to shut up. “Never fear. My lusts are only for you.”
