Benny gave a large grin. “Nah, that’s cool.”
“For Pete’s sake. Benny, sit down. You’re looming again.”
Benny sat at the corner of the island, next to Doug.
The truth struck Reggie right then. “You’re gay.” He felt like an idiot saying the obvious. “Sorry, it’s just, you had a ton of groupies back in the day. Didn’t they used to call you the Titty Magnet?”
Doug snickered.
“Yeah.” Benny cleared his throat. “Sadly, that was never my thing. But to please the promoters, I did what I had to do.”
“That must have sucked.”
“It truly did. And not in a good way.”
Reggie laughed. “I’ll bet.”
“But man, I can tell the difference between a fake job and the real thing from half a room away. I’ve signed so many bare chests, you wouldn’t believe it.”
“That how you met Doug?”
Doug choked on his beer.
Benny laughed. “Him? Mr. Priss?”
“Benny.”
“Nah. His brother, a great guy, by the way, dragged him to a match. Doug and I fell in love.”
“In lust, then love.” Doug shrugged. “I like to be honest.”
“Oh, please. I hooked you like a largemouth bass.”
“Largemouth? Really?” Doug looked peeved.
Reggie cut in, “If he knew anything about wrestling, he’d have been hooked on your backbreaker hammer claw.”
Benny’s grin widened. “Youarea fan.”
“To Bear Destruction,” Reggie toasted.
They all drank to that.
Then Doug forestalled more wrestling talk. “Okay, enough about Benny. What’s the deal with you and Maggie?”
Chapter Seventeen
Benny said with a raised brow, “You looked a little lost outside Maggie’s door. Did dinner not go well?”
“How did you know about dinner?” Reggie asked.
Doug huffed. “First, we know everything. Second, Emily talked about nothing but your dinner all day.”
“Emily likes you.” When Benny didn’t smile, he looked intimidating. Like a dark cloud blotting out the sun. Damn. Bear Destruction for sure. “She said you were pretty.” Then he smiled. “I’d have to agree.”
Reggie blinked. “Ah, thank you?”
“Can we keep him, Doug? Can we?”
