“I have a big dick and I know how to use it.” He winked and left her to grab a soda.
Well, with that going for him, how can I possibly refuse?
Chapter 24
Tuesday, December 21st
Piper didn’t know what to think. Dealing with Grant had become a fulltime emotional roller coaster. He loved her. He wanted to marry her. He wanted to knock her up. Since when did the hometown girl win the millionaire baseball player in real life? She had a life in Hope’s Turn. A job she loved. Family here.
Grant “the West Wind” Weston planned to quit baseball and move back to Hope’s Turn next year. Quitting his contract? Leaving that gorgeous condo in Bellevue to come here? Where they had houses devoted to cats and snow that never stopped in the winter months? Would he like it here? Could he? They didn’t even have their own airport or hospital.
Yet he knew the score. He’d lived in Hope’s Turn years ago, and he had family here.
She had no idea what to do, but she’d lost another week. The snow had hit and hit hard. With just four more days until the twenty-fifth, she still didn’t know what to give Grant for Christmas.
They continued to make love late at night in his room downstairs. By now, Jenna knew they were an item, as did half the town, it seemed. Word had spread at the office, and Marsha continued to pester her for an interview, especially now that another of their own was dating a bigtime sports hero.
She wished she could figure out what to do with her life.
At noon, she ran into Ellie Weston at the local bath and body store on Main Street.
“Hey, Ellie.” They exchanged a hug, and Piper gently asked, “How are you?”
“Doing great.” She beamed. “Cade and I had the best time last week. Grant was such a godsend to watch Alex for us.”
“That’s great to hear. So you and Cade are good.” She smiled.
“Yeah. Should we not be?” Ellie looked puzzled.
“Oh, er, I’m sorry. I’d heard you and Cade might be having problems. Isn’t that why Grant is staying with us?”
“What? I thought you were depressed and Grant was helping you through some tough times.”
“Is that right?” Hmm. “You mean Grant was supposed to stay with you over the holiday break?”
“He was. But then he’s been staying with you, so I finally let my sister know she could stay with us for a bit.”
“That’s nice.”
Ellie laughed. “Not really. Cade and Bea don’t get along. But I love them both.” She shrugged.
“I get that.” Piper frowned. “But I still don’t understand why Grant said he needed to give you guys space.”’
Ellie cleared her throat. “Is it true you and Grant are kind of dating?”
“Kind of.” Is that what we’re doing?
“Well, if what I’m hearing from you is true, then I’d venture to say Grant bamboozled us both. He told you he needed to stay with you so as not to get in the way of my failing marriage,” she said drily. “While he told us he needed to help you get over that deceitful Sam. But of course, he was only acting as a ‘friend.’”
Piper wanted to be annoyed about him lying to her, but she wasn’t. And she didn’t know why. “I think I need to talk to your brother-in-law.”
“And I need to talk to my lying husband.”
They smiled at each other, and Ellie said, “Good luck.”
“Thanks. And by the way, your son is adorable.”
“Ha. The only people who say that are the ones that don’t live with him. But thanks. I know.”
