“Watch it, buddy. I know where you live.”
“But you still can’t drive there. When are you getting your license, anyway?”
As the teenagers bickered and laughed, Grant drew Piper to the box and pulled out some homemade decorations clearly crafted by children.
She sighed. “Someday, I’ll have a box of these too.”
“Marriage first, you said, right?”
“Yep.” She paused, glanced at Jenna and Simon, and tugged him close for a kiss before whispering, “I don’t mind thinking about children, or practicing how to make them.”
He cleared his throat. “See? We do think alike.”
“Hey, we saw you kiss,” Jenna said. “About freakin’ time.”
“Watch it, Mason.” Piper glared. “I’m keeping my eye on you.”
“Ooh, I’m so scared.”
“Mark this down, Grant. Coal for the girl.”
“Just kidding.”
Piper grinned. “That’s what I thought.”
Grant laughed with the others, wondering just how he and Piper might manage some special adult time later on.
But at midnight, when Piper snuck into his room wearing reindeer antlers with her reindeer pajamas, he wasn’t sure he could stop laughing long enough to get in the mood.
Chapter 22
Piper glared at Grant while trying not to laugh with him. “Shh. You’ll wake Jenna up.”
He put a pillow over his face to muffle the noise, but when he looked up at her around the pillow, he started laughing again.
“Stop.” She laughed with him, trying to smother the noise with another of his pillows.
When he came up for air, he wiped his eyes and said, “You know, I’m all for letting your freak fly, but Piper, this is a stretch even for me.”
“Hush.” She tugged at the antlers again. “I tried them on as a gag, because they go with the pajamas, but they got stuck in my hair. I need your help to get them out.”
He snickered as he helped, and before long, they were wheezing from quietly laughing so hard.
After he managed to free from her Rudolph’s cursed antlers, they both lay back in his bed, touching at the shoulder and nowhere else. He remained under the covers while she lay on top.
“So, you come here often?” he asked and started laughing again.
“Quiet, you.” She turned to see him wearing nothing on top, which made her wonder if had any pants on. Instead of asking, she rudely pulled back the covers.
“Hey, you’re letting all the heat out.”
“Bummer. You’ve got boxers on.”
“No problem.” He shimmied out of them and tossed them to the floor.
Piper left the bed to lock the door behind her and returned to dim the light on the nightstand.
“I can barely see,” he complained. “And I was hoping for some nipple dancing.”
