I can’t suck my own cock. Nah, that will not go over well. He swallowed. “I’m not a great in social situations. I don’t have the patience to sell houses or make people happy if I have to work at it. You do those much better than me.”

“What about cooking?” She planted her hands on her hips.

He wondered how to answer that.

“You don’t think I’m a good cook?” She sounded hurt.

“You’re a terrible cook. But I love you.”

“I’m great with food. I can chop and... ” Her eyes grew wide. “What did you say?”

Well, damn. I blew that one. Trying to recover, he forced a bland smile. “I mean, you’re such a loving person. Who wouldn’t love you?” He had already kicked off his shoes, so he sat on the couch and put his feet up on the table.

“Sam didn’t love me.”

“See? That, there.” He pointed at her and scowled. “Stop talking down about yourself.”

“I’m not. That was a statement of fact.”

“Yeah, well, we’re in my condo. I don’t want to hear that fucker’s name mentioned again.” He hated that she kept thinking about Sam. And that she was still hurt over that asshole.

“Why? You jealous?” she taunted.

“No.” Yes. “But I’m baffled as to how you could think someone like him could be good enough for you.”

She stopped her tirade and plopped next to him on the sofa. “How do you do that?”

“Do what?”

“Make me mad and then not mad in a split second?”

“It’s a gift. My mom used to say the same thing about me growing up.”

Piper laughed. “I liked your mom. Has she changed a lot since you were younger?”

“Not really. I love her, but she’s pretty invested in my stepdad now. And I want that for her. We’re not super close. Not like I am with Cade.”

“I remember you being a loner when you were younger.”

“I still am, I guess.” He plucked her hair from her shoulder and rubbed the soft strands between his fingers. “Don’t hang out with the team much. Don’t date much. Don’t do parties or junkets unless I have to. Like I said, I’m boring.”

“Not to me. So tell me, what’s your favorite food?”

“I guess, lasagna.”

“Favorite dessert?”

“Apple pie.”

She cocked her head. “Not pumpkin?”

“You’re thinking Jenna. Remember our Thanksgiving Day argument? I’m the apple pie and ice cream guy.”

“Right. Favorite color?”

“Blue. And before you ask, blonds are my type.”

She grinned. “Good to know.”
