“So it was all right that he hooked up with some other woman?” Grant looked at her as if she had two heads.
“No.” She scowled. “None of that was all right. I’m saying I might have contributed to our problems, is all.”
“You’re stupid.”
She blinked. “Excuse me?”
He grabbed her out of her chair and tossed her over his shoulder.
“Grant Weston, you let me go right now.”
“No. We’re going to have a serious talk, and I don’t want Jenna to come home and witness any of it.” He carried her down the hall to his room, tossed her onto his bed, then shut and locked the door behind him. “You’re an idiot.”
Too incensed to be nervous at being alone with him, she rallied to her feet and poked him in the chest when he neared. “I’m an idiot?” She gave an angry laugh, feeling free to let him have it. And that anger gave her a feeling of power she’d been missing for way too long. “At least I tried to commit to someone other than myself.”
He glared. “Are you saying I’m selfish?”
“If the shoe fits.”
“Not dating isn’t selfish.”
“Not giving yourself to anyone but baseball is crazy.”
“So is tying yourself to some user who’d rather be with anyone other than you.”
It took her a minute. “Thank you?”
“You’re welcome,” he snarled and tugged her into his arms. “So stupid, you can’t see what’s right in front of your face.”
“Hey, I’m not stupid,” she started to argue then lost her train of thought when Grant planted a kiss on her lips.
The kiss robbed her breath, and she felt woozy when he pulled back and swore.
“Sorry. I didn’t mean to... It’s just... You’re so pretty, and so damn dense.” He scowled down at her, his face dear, familiar yet not, and so handsome, even in his mad.
She needed to feel all the fury and desire, wanted to experience lust from a man who wanted her for nothing more than the same passion she felt.
“Grant, I’m not sorry.”
“What?”
She answered by dragging him back for another kiss.
And then she let her body do the talking.
Chapter 10
Grant didn’t know when he’d lost the thread of their conversation. He just couldn’t handle Piper talking down about herself, taking the blame for some dickhead who couldn’t see her for the gem he knew her to be.
But he’d lost his fucking mind by taking her into his bedroom and locking them in together. Honestly, he wasn’t thinking rationally at all, or he never would have kissed her.
But now that she’d turned the tables and kissed him back, he was helpless but to follow her lead.
Piper kissed him until he couldn’t breathe, couldn’t function past the throbbing between his legs. Good lord, he’d never been so hard so fast before. The woman affected him like no one ever had, and he had no defense against her.
So when she pulled away from him and started stripping off his clothes, he let her, standing without speaking until he was stark naked in front of her.
“Oh, nice.” Her eyes looked foggy, the amber color darkened with desire. “Help me out here, Grant.”
