“Not all of them,” he muttered. “And you’re one to talk. Gorgeous women prance around, expecting men to fall at their feet.”
“So, I’m gorgeous and you’re handsome?” Piper grinned. “We’re a good-looking pair aren’t we?”
Grant chuckled. “We are at that.” He sighed. “But I’m having a tough time remembering what it was really like to kiss you. I want to be enlightened too, Piper. How about you plant another one on me?”
She laughed. “Dream on.” Because if she did, she feared she wouldn’t stop at a few kisses.
The thought struck her.
Would that be so bad? Grant seemed to want to continue where they’d left off last night. And didn’t she want something nice for herself too? Something uncomplicated and pleasant? Maybe even panty-melting? A Christmas present just for her?
“Why are you looking at me like that?” Grant asked, sounding curious and not wary. The foolish man.
“No reason.” She smiled.
He took a step back.
She smiled wider. “How long are you in town?”
“Um, why?”
“Just answer the question.”
“Well, from now through the New Year.”
“Nice.” That would give her time to have some fun but not too much time that she grew attached.
“Then I need to get back to Seattle for some split workouts and functional strength training with my trainers and a few friends on the team. We do some pre-Spring training together. But I wasn’t kidding about finding a house here. Speaking of which, when are you going to show me around?”
She frowned. “You weren’t kidding?”
“No, I mean it. I won’t be playing baseball forever. I like it here. It’s a small town, and it’s nice. I grew up here, remember.”
“As if I could forget.” She smiled to take any sting he might perceive out of her words. “I need a working budget and some must-haves before I show you around. I have some open time tomorrow, actually, since I’m not working Thanksgiving or Friday.”
“Perfect. I’ll put together details for you tonight. What time tomorrow can we go?”
“Don’t you have to work out?”
“I do, but I need a better place than the one I tried today. It was too distracting.”
“Hmm. Okay. I’ll try to think of a new place for you.”
“That would be great. In the meantime, I’ll just run around here, maybe use some of Jared’s weights. I think I spotted a weight bench in the garage.”
“Yeah. He tries to exercise, even has a gym membership downtown, but he and Ali are so busy he rarely gets out there. Anyway, we can leave tomorrow whenever you’re finished working out. I have a few properties I need to check out anyway. Probably way below your budget, though.”
“No problem. I need something to do to relax. Watching someone else work should do it.”
“Very funny.”
“I try.” He smiled. And man, he was hot. Sexy. That square jaw and those firm lips beckoned for another kiss.
She cleared her throat. “What did you want to do about dinner tonight? Or did you want some space? I don’t mean to—”
“No. No, I’d love to share a meal with you. My treat.”
“I was hoping to relax and eat in,” she confessed.
