Kate and Logan’s short fight ended in a tickle match that soon gave way to a lot of kissing.

Eric sighed. “She’s weak.”

“She’s not weak,” Kellen snapped back.

Eric studied him. “She’s weak when it comes to her mates. Can’t go five minutes without kissing one of them.”

“Oh.” Kellen flushed, needing to go back to his days of shutting up, letting others fill in the silence.

Fortunately, Eric ignored Kellen’s unneeded defense. “How’s the progress on the house? Last time I talked to Jesse, the floors were done.”

Kellen nodded. “We’ve been painting while Kate’s working. She finally picked out the tile she wants for the main bathroom, so we’re laying that tomorrow.”

“Good. That pack needs its own space.” Eric studied him. “You okay staying with them for a while? The clan is more stable when its power hitters—you berserkers—are happy. Dante and Wes have found new friends, and Joel’s already mated. So they’re good. But you seem to have settled in with Kate’s pack.”

“We’re okay.” More than okay. He wondered when,if, they’d want to play again. Being with them just that one night had opened the floodgates on his libido. But he didn’t want just anyone. He wanted Kate’s pack. Which was odd. Ravagers tended to fuck whoever happened to be closest.

Yet Kate and her lovers hadn’t been with anyone but him lately either. Or so he’d been told, over and over again, with much congratulations. As much as that fact pleased him, it made him nervous. Did their interest mean they wanted him to stay? Or were they being so friendly to ease him into the clan, so they could finally be done with him?

He looked up to see Prime staring at him.

“What?”

“Dante asked you to go out with a bunch of them for drinks tonight. I’m going to tell him to take you to Rock Hall, a popular Voider establishment. Keep your ears open.”

Kellen had imparted all that he’d learned overseas to Eric after arriving in the clan, filling them in on the feel of Voider-Norm relations away from Cross Step.

Eric had thanked him for the info but had said little else. Now Eric wanted him to look around the city? Kellen liked the idea. Information gathering was right in his wheelhouse.

“Anything you want me to listen up for?”

“Watchers.” Eric grimaced. “And anything Tommy Chen might be up to. I don’t trust that bastard one bit.” He started to say something more but tapered off, his attention snagged on a pretty woman walking toward them.

His pregnant mate headed their way.

Kellen couldn’t figure her out. Vicki Savage was human but not a Norm. A strong Conduit who felt like a Ravager. So strange.

He watched the pleasure cross Prime’s face as Vicki caught up and gave him a big, fat kiss. “There you are.” She smiled up at Kellen. “Hey, Conan. How do you like it here?”

“Conan?”

Eric rolled his eyes. “Forgive her. She’s human.”

“Ah.”

Vicki frowned. “What the hell does that mean?”

“And she’s soon whelping,” Malcolm, Prime’s other mate and head of security for the compound, said as he approached. “She’s crabby.”

Vicki’s eyes, a bright yellow, seemed to glow. “I’ll give you crabby.”

Kellen felt herguershift, powerful and violent.

But Malcolm only laughed and drew her close for a hug.

In all the time Kellen had spent around Ravager rulers, both in Cross Step and his homeworld, he’d never seen them so content. Or their packmates so happy.

Life in Savage lands was good, despite the dangers.
