Lila walked down the stairs from the kitchen and filled her in. “Rachel’s still working but making real progress on Milo’s Brakes.”

“Great.” Kenzie smiled.

“What’s with the wattage?” Lila’s eyes narrowed. “You’re hiding something.”

The tinkering sound of tools behind her alerted Lila to men working.

“Who’s back there?Pleasetell me it’s the—”

“Just Daniel and Evan,” Kenzie said to hopefully cover whatever inappropriate thing came out of Lila’s mouth.

“—Moving Man with the Fine Ass. Is it him? Wait. He’shere?” Lila gurgled with enjoyment.

“Oh my God. Could you be any more embarrassing?” Kenzie hissed as Daniel and Evan stuck their heads out of the closet.

Daniel shook his head and said something to Evan that had him laughing.

“Hi, Lila. I’m just the hired help.” Evan went back to working on the heater, sending Daniel back and forth to the garage a few times.

Lila dragged Kenzie toward her and in a low voice asked, “What is he doing here?”

“He’s fixing my pipes,” Kenzie deadpanned.

Lila hooted. “Man, you wish.”

I so wish.

“Really, what’s up?”

Kenzie explained about the water heater and about almost losing the Talon account before they could try selling it.

“That would have hurt,” Lila agreed. “So let the cutie help. I like your plan.” She whispered, “Did you do him yet?”

“Are you insane? Daniel’s here!”

Probably not the smartest thing she might have said. Her denial would be more believable if she’d expressed not being attracted or ready to date. Using her brother as the only excuse was too close to the truth and totally lame.

“I see.”

“I’m scared about what you think you see.” Kenzie groaned. “Come on. Let them work and help me fix this issue with the kale.”

“Loaves or leaves?”

“Lila.”

“Can’t you convince her to go with something strong and GMO-y? A logo, something natural, not cartoon kale with legs.”

Kenzie sighed, relieved to be talking about work and not Evan. “I’m trying, but Ellie is stuck on her first product that went national, and she’s afraid if we change her initial brand we’ll confuse people. So we need to incorporate the leaf with the new logo you were working on. I think your idea is closest to what she’ll really want, especially after talking to her earlier. But next time, youtalk to her. You’re more aggressive, and you seem nice. So you can intimidate her into a good idea.”

“I love how you insult and compliment me at the same time. I’m never sure if I should insult you back or say thank you.”

“You’re welcome.”

Lila muttered, “Bitch.”

Kenzie grinned.

“Kenzie, can you come here?” Daniel shouted.
