Did Evan have any idea of the family he was marrying into?

The game progressed, and Evan was kicking ass…and getting his ass handed to him by the firefighters.

Reid and Cash shared a glance. Jordan saw it. “No way. Uh-uh.”

Cash blinked. “What?”

“Nice try. But no fights. This is a family event.”

Smith had to disagree. “The Burning Embers are booing our team, and one of the dudes’ girlfriends almost tripped Will when he got too close to the sideline.” Smith frowned at a guy on the red team, who scowled at him. “Cheat much, you prick?” he yelled.

The Legal Eagle fans laughed. The other side booed.

“Bring it, shithead.” The dude flipped him off.

“Oh, nice one, jackass,” Jordan yelled back then turned and apologized. “So sorry. But that’s uncalled for.”

“Yeah, this isthegame of the season,” Rachel said, excited. “Will couldn’t wait to play them. I hear they got into a free-for-all last year with Top Cops.”

Kenzie said dryly, “This is not the best example of soccer I want my impressionable brother seeing.”

“It’s awesome,” Daniel gushed. “I freakin’ love this sport.”

Smith had to admit it had it’s charm. Another bruiser in a red shirt glared at him.

“Bring it, asshole,” Cash said before Smith could.

He glared at his…brother. “Hey, I had that.”

“Whatever.” Cash ignored him.

Before Smith could tear into him, halftime sounded, and Evan and Will raced over to join them.

Evan wore a dopey grin, grabbed Kenzie from the stands, and kissed the breath out of her. “We’re getting married,” he told everyone.

Kenzie flashed the hand she’d been hiding.

Her friends freaked out, and Daniel cheered, though he didn’t look surprised. Smith figured he’d already gotten the news. But the kid still wheezed when Evan hugged the breath out of him before passing him to Reid and Cash.

“Welcome, little cousin,” Reid said with a big grin. “Congrats, guys.”

Kenzie was breathless and so dang pretty. She hugged everyone, even Smith, and he felt… Damn it, he feltgood.

“And one other thing. I, um, I might be pregnant. It’s soon to tell, but—”

Her girlfriends went nuts. And even Jordan and Naomi looked taken aback by all the estrogen-laden tears and laughter.

“You move fast, Evan.” Smith gave him a hug, lost in the moment.

“Life moves fast. You gotta hop on before you miss the ride.” Evan and his nuggets of wisdom. He moved to Daniel. “I hope the baby thing is okay with you. It kind of just happened.”

Daniel sighed. “I left her a box of condoms, Evan. Geez.” Then the kid high-fived him while everyone laughed.

The whistle blew, and Will nudged Evan to return. To the group, he said, “After we beat these assholes, you guys want to go celebrate?”

“Heck yeah.” Cash grinned. “Ringo’s?” He glanced at Daniel then changed his mind. “Nah, they suck on Tuesdays. How about you guys come over to our place? Jordan actually cleaned up today.”

Jordan frowned at him. Smith still didn’t know what she saw in the blowhard. “Really? You want to talk about cleanliness?”
