“Um, thanks?”

“Now you have it all. A man, a rent-free business. Is marriage on the way too?” Linda looked at her hands. “I don’t see a ring.”

“Yet,” one of the twins said as she joined them. “Nice work, Becca. I’m impressed.”

“I’m sorry. Impressed about what? What are you talking about, Linda? What’s rent-free?”

Linda frowned. “Harris sold your building. He no longer owns many of the commercial properties on this street. Mitch Flashman bought them.”

“What?”

The bell over the door jingled, and Mitch, Simon, and Jenna stepped through, dusting snow off their coats.

Mitch saw her and gave her a big smile, not even looking at anyone else. “Hey, Becca. How’s it going?”

Simon pushed Mitch further inside. “Hey, Mitch. Why don’t you go talk to mom in the back?”

“That’s a really good idea,” Jenna said.

Enraged, cornered, and hurt, Becca stormed into the back, needing to give Mitch a piece of her mind. If he hadn’t somehow managed to buy that, too.
