“No, dumbass.”

Gideon scowled. Oh yeah, Alex definitely needed to be taken in hand.

“It’s not about sex. It’s about her constant screwing with my feelings,” Alex bit out. “I don’t want to feel better. Okay? I just want… I need… I don’t knowwhatthe fuck I need.”

But Gideon knew. He’d felt a similar sense of helplessness and anger at learning his friends had been killed. Even knowing Ollie had survived and was somewhere out there didn’t lessen the pain of losing loved ones. And from all accounts, Alex had been close to his sister.

“This is about Katie.”

“No shit.”

“I’ve had enough out of you. So we can do this the hard way, or we can do this the really hard way.”

“What are you—Damn it.Get off!”

Alex could do little more than respond with jabs and growls as Gideon attacked. Despite both men having Circ-fast responses, abilities, and senses, Gideon was a natural fighter. He’d been participating in illegal mixed martial arts bouts for years before becoming Circ. He fought dirty; he fought to win.

Alex fought to survive, but grief weighed him down, slowed him. Gideon knew the man’s beast didn’t like the strife. It wanted to obey its alpha. And it was past time it learned what Gideon’s beast already knew—there was no dissention in the pack.

You either obeyed, or you died.
