It would, but my family was keeping it quiet.

“You ready, princess?” I asked, when the week was up. We were in the bank parking lot on the south side of Main Street and I was helping her from her seat.

“Yes. You sure my ID is all I need?” she asked, patting her cross body purse.

“Yes. It’s time for a bank account. While Buck was fine paying you in cash, we’re not storing it under the mattress. Gonna get you your own account and add you to mine.”

“I don’t want your money,” she said.

“Mrs. Wilder, what’s mine is yours. I think I’ve shown you an example of that this week with my dick.”

She smirked. “Yes, you’ve been very generous with it. But Hayes, I–”

“Princess, you want to keep working the family ranch, that’s fine. But you’re not a ranch hand any longer, you’re a Wilder. You think of something else you want to do, we’ll look into that, too.”

She took a deep breath, nodded.

We entered the small bank and I waved at Kathleen, the manager, who was at her desk in the back. She saw me, smiled, but raised one finger for us to wait because she was on the phone.

When she was done with her call, she waved us over.

I let Cassidy sit first, then settled beside her in the other visitor’s chair.

“Hi Hayes, how are you today?” the older woman smiled. She’d been working here for as long as I’d had my own business and she was friends with my mother.

“We’ve got a few banking things to handle, but first I wanted to ask if you can keep this quiet for a little while.”

“I don’t discuss private banking matters with others.” She seemed put out that I even suggested that.

“I know, and I apologize if I made you think that.” I glanced at Cassidy. “What I want to keep quiet is that Cassidy and I are married.”

Kathleen’s eyes widened and then she smiled. “Oh, Hayes, congratulations. Cassidy, it’s so nice to meet you.”

Cassidy smiled. “Thanks. Same.”

“This is big news and I haven’t heard a hint of it, and I was at the Sip N’ Serv this morning. Which means your mother’s keeping it quiet.”

“For now, she is.”

Kathleen nodded. “Your secret’s safe with me. What can I do for you?”

“I want to add Cassidy to my account, but she’s got some banking you can help with.”

Kathleen crossed her hands on her wooden desk. “What do you need, Cassidy?”

“I want to open a bank account. I have some cash I want to deposit.”

Kathleen nodded. “Sure, no problem. I just need your ID.”

Cassidy fished it from her purse and handed it over.

Kathleen looked at the license and her eyes widened. “Cassidy Trout. Oh my.”

“Is there a problem?” I asked, taking Cassidy’s hand. I wasn’t letting anyone fuck with her because she was a Trout.

“No. No problem at all. But she already has an account.”

Cassidy frowned. “No, I’m sorry. I don’t. I’d have remembered.”
