“It can once we determine who would know about her status. Get your head in the game. You and Kai are the ones who should be able to figure this out. You’re our analytical thinkers.”
He rubbed the bridge of his nose, scrunching his face. “I’m trying. It’s hard to focus with her. Maybe it’ll just be for one day.”
“And if it’s not, you’ll push through.”
“What if she just wants Kai?”
It was a strong possibility. She’d been around us all, but she was used to Kai more. Even when she came by between stays, she would always seek Kai out. He should have been the one she mistrusted the most because of his manipulative and demonic powers. Her father was smart in getting him together so that he could be the first by her side. However, it didn’t do the rest of us any favors. I would hate the idea of us not participating in her heat, but it was her choice. Ultimately, I just wanted her to stay with us and officially become our omega. I could be patient.
I patted Ty on the shoulder. “If that’s what she wants, then that’s what she gets. If you need to get out to clear your head, you should.”
Ty let out a deep, shaky breath. “Sounds like a great idea. I think I need to get far away. I won’t be gone long.”
He sped away, leaving a gust of wind behind him. Things were going to be very interesting with my guys. I decided the best thing for me was to stay off the top floors.
I went upstairs to the kitchen to prepare food. I knew she would be ravenous for however long this lasted. I went with lemon pepper chicken wings, green beans, and potato wedges, as well as chocolate chip cookies.
Kai came down about an hour later, looking way too happy. I was damn jealous. He eyed the food excitedly. “Awesome, you thought ahead. I can bring this up to her.”
I prepared a large plate for her and added a jug of water and glasses. “How is she?”
Kai leaned against the counter and grabbed a miniature potato, popping it into his mouth. “Perfect. After she eats, I’m going to have to get her to sleep.”
I narrowed my eyes, suspicious. “She should be exhausted.”
“I know. I think she stole some of my energy.
“How?”
He shrugged, making himself a plate as well. “Good question. Let’s see about it when we’re all clear-headed.” He paused, turning to me with a careful look.
That was unusual for him. Kai didn’t hide emotions. He was never that in control. “What is it?”
“After she’s rested, should I ask her if she wants someone else in there with her if she’s still in heat?”
I smiled, knowing why he was asking. “Worried you can’t keep up?”
He rolled his eyes, but there was an underlying worry I caught. “No. She needs to get comfortable with all of us. I’m trying not to be an asshole. It’s a rarity for me, so enjoy it. Besides, you’re the pack lead, technically you should have been first.”
I put her food on the tray, mulling that over. In most packs, the lead was first in everything. But it was an archaic process, and I knew Billie would not give in to that. She didn’t need to, and I certainly didn’t have the desire to enforce those types of rules. “We do whatever the lady wants. And don’t get pissy if she asks for someone else. Let her know that’s what we expect. I want her totally comfortable about everything.”
Kai rolled his shoulders back, pointing at himself with shocked eyes. “Pissy? Me?”
I narrowed my eyes to let him know I was serious, but he had already turned and walked away with the tray of food. I didn’t think he’d really be a problem. He understood the importance of this time. It was imperative that she be comfortable with all of us for claiming or at least half of us. I’d be disappointed if she rejected me, but I would survive if she remained with us in the end.
She didn’t leave her room the rest of the night, and the next morning, I was back in the kitchen cooking for everyone. At the moment, both Lance and Ty were still on edge. I’d heard Ty return before the sun came up and head to his room, where he remained. Lance had come down to eat, but he looked more aggravated than usual as he sat at the kitchen island.
I placed a large bacon, cheese and vegetable omelet with toast in front of him. “How you doing?”
He stared at the food, shoulders slumped. “Like I need to burst out of my skin.”
“Didn’t you do that yesterday?”
He picked up his fork and sawed into the omelet like it was work. “Yes, and I need to do it again. How can you move around like it’s nothing? All I can smell is her. She’s still in her heat.”
I shrugged. I was on the edge of control myself and actually had to take matters into my own hands, literally, before going to bed. The whole house smelled of her, and even the aromas from my cooking couldn’t cover her scent. My skin actually itched to be near her. To make contact but I needed to be in control for the rest of the pack. “It hasn’t been 24 hours.”
“I wish it would hurry up,” he stated angrily before stuffing his mouth with food.
