“Uh, I work at the Sacramento Bee, and I’m eager to show them my work, then I could move on to writing investigative stories, that’s my dream job,” Claudette says, smiling, shifts in her seat, leaning back into the backrest.

“It sounds like you’re excited,” I say, nodding.

“Yes, I started to write stories in my journal about what I would find at school or in the home. The gathering of facts is a thrill and an enticing challenge. What about you, Kon,” Claudette asks, pulling her hand out of her mind crossing her arms.

“I’m on a special assignment, gathering data for the company that I work for,” I say, pulling out my cell phone.

“Oh, how long will you be here in Sacramento,” Claudette asks, raising her right eyebrow.

“As long as it takes. Princess, I would like to take you out to lunch tomorrow,” I say, smiling.

Claudette's shiny eyes widen, her lips turn up in a pleased smile.

“That sounds good,” Claudette says, nodding.

“Awesome, please enter your number on my cell phone,” I say, handing her my cell phone.

“Okay,” Claudette says, sliding her fingers over the screen entering her number.

“Please call yourself,” I ask, smiling.

Claudette smiles, call her cell, it rings, and ends the call.

Hell yes.

I have her number, and now I need to court her because I must know everything about my soulmate.

“What about you, Kon? Do you have any hobbies or sports that you like,” Claudette asks, resting her arm on the armchair, tilting her head?

“Princess, I love to play the piano; classical music is it for me, and when I’m extremely stressed out, I work out, so kickboxing works for me,” I say, smiling.

“Oh, I would love to hear you play the piano and to see you in action kickboxing,” Claudette says, her smile reaching her eyes, giving me warm and fuzzy feelings.

Fuck!

She has me all twisted.

“Lori Green family,” a doctor asks, walking out of doors. He looks over his dark, red-rimmed glass at the room.

“Yes, Doctor, we’re her parents,” Mr. Green says, walking to stop next to the doctor.

Mrs. Green is next to him, and we gather to listen.

I stare at the short doctor that’s holding the aluminum clipboard.

“I’m doctor Glad, the attending physician for Lori. We ran several tests and gave her a Tetanus shot and antibiotics through the IV to fight the infection,” Dr. Glad says in a dry, serious tone.

“That’s good; we’re thrilled to learn that Lori will be okay,” Mr. Green says, rubbing his neck.

“Lori will be here for a few more hours, but she can only have family visitors,” Dr. Green says, looking at the group.

“Thank you, doctor,” Mrs. Green says, nodding.

It’s been a long night, and finally, I convinced Claudette and Kitty to return home. I wait for Claudette and Kitty to talk to Lori’s parents, leaning against the wall looking at my cell phone.

I had my assistant Jim make reservations for a rental car, and a hotel room to use while I’m here in Sacramento because it’s become fucking clear that I’m going to spend some time here claiming my soulmate Claudette, while monitoring the Rogue Vampire that’s here causing chaos.

It's all good because now that I have found her, I’m not letting her go.
